HIFE Health Insurance for Everyone H.I.F.E. / NCE / Unified Life Insurance Company / MultiPlan / Covered California [referred them] Told me they were selling me a policy with coverage that did not exist. THEY LIED!! Not sure, but claims is in Overland Park Kansas

Obamacare directed me to "Covered California" to find health insurance. I had a great plan with United Healthcare [PPO] before my husband lost his job. We were in a bind to find insurance. We left our phone number on the site, and instantly hudreds of phone calls came in from "agents" selling insurance.

Lance at HIFE [Health Insurance For Everyone] called and told us that what he was selling us was just like the PPO we had with United Healthcare, but if we decliened "Major Medical" which they said is pregnancy and substance abuse coverage, the rate would be significantly less. He explained all the coverage and it sounded just like what we had, so we joined.

That was the biggest mistake EVER. I can't believe what these people are getting away with. They deny everything they said and every single person I have spoken to on the phone is RUDE and apathetic. I have filed several complaints [whatver that does, I have not idea]. I won't go into the details, but I do want to say one thing:

When you buy health insurance, and you go to the emergency room, you expect the insurance company to pay a huge portion of it, right? [the policy I had - and every other one, had a deductible of $50 - $100 typically]. That is also what we were led to believe we would have with our policy. Until we got the bill from the hospital for $863.00. AND the explanation of benefits letter we received from Unified Life Insurance Co. listed all the charges, and at the bottom it said the total they paid is $50. Who on earth would ever expect coverage for ER services to only cover $50?

When you call to ask for a copy of the recording from when you were sold the policy, you will get the run around. Suddenly no one know how to get it. I am so tired of putting any energy into this, that I am going to stop here. Because I know I have a LONG battle ahead of me with these con artists.

CAVIAT: Investigate thourouly all avenues before purchasing insurance, and stay FAR AWAY from these jerks.
