I needed to obtain an article and signed up for Highbeam's 7-day free trial.  When I signed up, I chose the monthly option of $29.99 per month.  Ironically, when I went to cancel my account within the free trial, I had trouble doing so.  I was finally able to cancel the subscription 2-3 weeks later, thinking all I would be out is $30.  When I received my bill, I was charged the annual fee of $174.00.  I filed a dispute with my credit card company and I put a call into Highbeam to find out why I was charged the annual fee.  The female worker who answered the phone was unhelpful and had a serious attitude.  She told me that my service was switched from monthly to annually and when I asked her went did this happen, she got really quiet.  Then she said it was done during the sign up process which is total BS.  She got really ticked when I told her I filed a dispute with my CC company; she made it clear that I would not receive a refund from Highbeam. 

Do not use this service!!  Highbeam is running a "bait and switch" type company.  I suspect this company has "rigged" the sign up process where it switches from monthly to annual subscription without your knowledge.  They do not offer refunds once a charge is made so by the time you received your CC statement, you're SOL.
