In February of 2010, my daughter's Windows XP computer would not boot up into Windows.  After searching, I found Higher Ground Software's Hard Drive Mechanic which claimed it had a solution for the very problem her computer was experiencing.  Thanks to a slick web site and a "100% Money Back guarantee", I ordered the sofvtware and paid the $50.


THE SOFTWARE DOES NOT WORK

In case, that wasn't clear, let me repeat:

THE SOFTWARE DOES NOT WORK

I wrote  lengthy email to the company to the address listed for the Money Back guarantee.  It was returned as Undeliverable .. several times delivery was attempted and all were unsuccessful.  Then I received an email from a separate email of theirs (not listed here per Ripoff Report instructions) listing the charge they were making to my Visa card.  So I attempted to email them at that address as well - same result: Undeliverable.

The company does not list a contact phone number. So, I got VISA involved and have filed a billing dispute.  VISA did have a contact number for them and attempted to call them: NUMBER HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED.  My charges are currently dropped pending rebuttal from this "company".

So, in summary: DO NOT PURCHASE HARD DRIVE MECHANIC.  Their software did not work for me - which in itself is not so unusual BUT: you cannot contact them to get technical assistance or a refund.  That's all you need to know about this company.
