In May 2013, we financed a matress from Hilton Furniture. We paid $100 over the price to have it delivered. It was delivered the next day in a plastic covering and put in the room it was to be used in. As we did not require a frame or box spring, the matress was the only item delivered.

We were told by the salesman that it was "last years model" and we could get it for around $600. So, we agreed to accept this as new but an older model no longer being sold.

One day while we were preparing to move the matress, we noticed a yellow tag on it. The tag clearly stated it was a used matress and was a "SECOND HAND (used) ARTICLE" and was "SANITIZED". If it were new, it would not have to have been "sanitized".The tag also said it was from AA Matress of Houston Texas. Not even a Hilton Matress?

We immediately notified Hilton Furniture and were given the run around and everyone that was involved with selling us the matress was either magically not available or never returned our calls.

Our finance company confirmed that the contract stated "new" as they do not finance "used" materials and that we would have to take it up with the store we purchased it from.

Finally, after a total lack of response from Hilton Furniture or any salespersons,  we contacted our local news media investigative consumer report advocates and they are working with us now. Hilton was given another chance to respond but has not done so to this point.

Making up for bad customer service

AUTHOR: BraggCreek - ()

POSTED: Saturday, December 07, 2013

Hilton Furniture has (after being called by media threatening to run the rip off story) graciously mended the problem by providing merchandise and additional service for their screw up. Their neglect in not explaining what their policy is and what the law requires for them to do if a mattress is opened. Apparently it must be sanitized if the plastic is opened or removed more than 12 inches. This was finally explained and we are now satisfied with the results to this point. The mattress was a close out and not used, however the place that did the sanitizing put the affixed tag on stating that it was used. Clarification was made and it is finally resolved. But I do not think we will be shopping for furniture there again.
