We sought out a breeder for a Himalayan kitten after we lost our rescue earlier in the year. We wanted a female as we had an older male and did not want the alpha dominance issue. We found this person online who represented herself as a breeder. She said that she had a torte female and we made arrangements to pick her up. She is about an hour and a half away. She took to the vet and all was good. We followed up with the vet who checked out well. While we love this little one, we found out on the day to be fixed, she was a he. Her coloring was more of a siamese though we were promised a torte. Their points don't come in until later. A true breeder would know these things. When we contacted her about this, she said she is not a breeder, "just a lady who loves cats and sharing that love." She lists herself as a breeder on her Facebook page. Himalayan Cat Ranch. And she charged $300. She brought up she's less expensive than others, which is not the point. If we wanted any cat, we would have gotten another rescue like we did before though we wanted something specific. She asked for my address to give me a partial refund "out of the goodness of her heart" and told me that this had never happened before and was "very sad." Since then, she sent nothing and blocked me from messaging her. She made it very personal and about her, not about customer service. Not an apology. I made it clear to her that we loved him and would keep him, just having to deal with the alpha dominance which put a lot of stress on our older male cat - which is what we were trying to avoid. She misrepresented herself as a breeder, claimed she was not an expert though she lists herself as such. Be forewarned when you go to this "breeder." Very unprofessional and by her own admission, after the fact, not a breeder.
