Hiram Waste is not a very reputable company, do not use them, call IESI if you want good service and no hassle.

I have had constant frustration with Hiram Waste for years. It is my fault for staying with them, but I was unaware of the competition like IESI who provides better and a more reliable service.

My latest complaint comes in the form of Hiram's commitments to service. They bill for a three month period in advance of service. I paid my bill for the coming months of October, November, and December. The trash service is to be picked up on Mondays and Fridays, every week. At the end of the first week in October, every customer in my neighborhood had a taped letter on their trash cans that stated: "Due to employee issues and rising gas and landfill costs we will now only pick up your trash on Monday." There was no offer of a reduction in price or anything.

I called immediately to cancel my service. By the way, they never answer their phones. You always have to leave a message. I left a message on Friday, October the 10th, and everyday after for one week, repeating my name, address, and call back number. They never returned my call. The following Friday, October 17, they finally had a message that said: "thank you for calling Hiram Waste, if you have a complaint, please mail it to us." Very professional guys!

I have since called IESI and set up service with them. I have also filed a BBB complaint of the same nature. I suggest you look into this as well. I do not expect to receive a refund from Hiram for the service I will not use, even though I have stated my cancellation request to them several times. I also expect them to send me another bill in December, never pick up my trash can, and bill me for late fees. Hiram, if you read this: I have canceled my service! Please come pick up your trash can NOW!

Also, in the past, I had a trash can wheel break. I called to report this and to request another can. Once again they would not return my call. Two weeks later I called in and left a message posing as a potential "New Customer", they called me back within 20 minutes. (I suggest you use this method as well, if you need to speak with an employee) After explaining my frustrations and listening to empty excuses(one being a wrecked truck), I finally received a trash can another two weeks later. The funny thing is: the very same day I got a good trash can, a house, two blocks down, had one out front with a broken wheel. And their broken can just so happened to have the same paint stain on the left side that my old one had.

People: take my advise: do not do business with these people. They do not care. And I'm sure, just like other complaints on this website, an anonymous employee for Hiram will post a rebuttal "remembering my exact complaint" and will make up excuses as to why they did nothing wrong.

At the very least, put it to a test: give them a call, before signing up for their service, you'll see what I mean.

Picture this: You call Pizza Hut, order two large pizzas. You pay 15$ over the phone and wait for delivery. The delivery man shows up with one pizza and says: "Sorry, gas costs too much, you only get one pizza, no refund for the other one either." How many more times would you order pizza from them?

In Defense of Cory

AUTHOR: Nicky - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 26, 2010

I would like to defend the accusations reported by Cory.

I have been dealing with Hiram Waste since August of 2009.  Within these few months, Hiram has been extremely lacking in customer service and service overall.

There have been mulitiple occasions where we have went for weeks at a time without picking up our trash.  The longest period was approximately 4 weeks, with trash being picked up the 5th week.  After numberous calls to the office, none of which were ever answered or returned, our trash was finally picked up.  Was there any refund for non-service, of course not.  In fact, we could never reach anyone to discuss the problem to begin with.  In addition, when the trash was finally picked up, I asked the driver why the long wait, to which the response was "I had family issues and vacation, so there was no one to pick up".

I'm sorry, while I feel for your family issues, I pay for a service.  If an employee will be gone for an extended time, I expect the company to hire a replacement.  Again, calls were placed but never returned.

In fact, I've never spoken to a person, other than the driver, since August, despite all my attempted contacts.  As our bill was to discontinue at the end of January, we have now switched to IESI for service.  I called Hiram several times leaving my address, phone number, and other contact information to stop service with them.  I did this all thru the month of January.  Today, FINALLY, I was able to contact someone.  When I told them that I wished to discontinue service, I was told that there was an outstanding balance owed.  I replied that we have been trying to cancel, but noone would answer the phone, that we had gone weeks without service, and no, I would not be paying the bill.  The lady (who was pleasant) responded that she had processed the request for discontinuation but to expect a bill as she didn't handle that area.  Fine by me, I will handle that when it comes up.

This is a horrible company.  Not only do they ignore the basic tenet of service, such as providing trash pickup as expected, but they also miserably fail when it comes to responding to complaints.  I personally filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (along with 26 other people).  To date, there has been no response to my complaint or 20 others.  The BBB grades this company with an "F" which is the lowest grade allowed.

Be wary and if possible, find another company to service your waste disposal needs.  How this company has stayed in business is beyond me.

The end

We will no longer be commenting on your report. And I highly doubt that the guy that empties the trash called him a dishonest business owner. So I hope that IESI treats you well and you have a good day!

once again...

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, November 22, 2008

1. yes i have called the bbb and they have currently, 18 claims on your business. Only 1 has been answered by your company. The other 17 have not been responded to. (you must have been too busy answering the phone!)

2. Do I know what it takes to keep honest people working for me? Hmm...lets see, you work for me, I pay you for bi-weekly trash service, 3 months in advance. You take my money and then tell me I'm only going to pick up your trash once a week. So yes I do know how hard it is to find honest people. Besides, once again...You and your problems are none of my concern. I as a consumer do not care about your problems. I pay for a service, you dont deliver. If i dont pay for the service because I just got robbed, or had to buy gas for my personal car, or daycare went up, or I lost my job, etc.... You as a business owner would not care. You would say "I'm sorry, you cant pay your bill, we cant pick up your trash".

3. As for the question about gas...Yes I do know that you run you're trucks off of diesel. I used the word gas because in YOUR letter to customers YOU said "because of the rising cost of gas we can only pick up once a week". So lets discuss this point. Currently the average north texas gallon of diesel is $2.75. On the day you decided to blame the price of diesel as the reason you would start to steal from your customers, the average gallon of diesel in north texas was right over $4.00 a gallon.

So, once again...now that the price is back down, do you plan on honoring the terms of your agreement with your customers? I didnt think so, b/c you are looking for any excuse to line your pockets with money you do not intend to earn.

4. You asked me if I even know what a hard days work is? Once again...what does it matter? Do you only service customers that can prove they work hard? Why does that have any bearing on the matters at hand? To answer your question though, yes I do know what a hard days work is. As a matter of fact, i believe working 18 hours straight in Iraq fighting a war so that you can be free to rip off honest Americans is a hard days work. I think I more than qualify as to a hard worker.

So, now that I have answered your questions, please do us all a small favor and answer just one for me.

1. How do you justify taking my money for a three month bi-weekly trash service and then changing the terms to only once a week, without any repayment or refund?

Also, FYI...IESI charged me just three dollars more for their 3 month service than you did. The only difference is that they pick up the trash twice as much, per week, as you do.

And, I am sure that your guys DO work until dark if they have to, I do not have a problem with your guys, my problem is with you. I am not picking on the little guys, I am picking on the "dishonest business owner", which, by the way, is a term your worker, the one that empties the trash, called you when I stopped them to discuss this problem.

No lying

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (U.S.A.)

Here are some questions for you:

1. Have you called the BBB to find out about our written response that was mailed in because their site was having changes made?

2. Do you know what it takes to keep honest people working for you personally?

3. We don't use gas, we use diesel and it is not cheap. Did you know that?

4. And finally, do you even know what a hard days work is? I highly doubt that you do.

If your HOA is suggesting for everyone to switch, why is it that so many people are okay with the change and don't care what your HOA is saying. You should really research yalls beloved IESI and when they leave trash, broken glass, and hydrolic oil on your streets you will not be able to blame us for it anymore. When they charge you $107 a quarter don't call us back find someone else to take care of your trash. When you can come sown off your highhorse you might get respect from people. Our guys work until dark if they have to and they make sure you are happy and all you can do is belittle the "little guy". When IESI cusses you out and tells you that they do not care, you will wish that yall weren't so quick to change. HAVE A NICE DAY!

you are a liar

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 17, 2008

This person is lying, I have never spoken with them on the phone, they will not return calls or answer when you call. As I said: Give it a shot and call them, see if it is answered. You did not offer to finish out the year, why would I agree to that? I have paid for bi-weekly service, why would I settle for only one pickup on Mondays, for the rest of the year?

As for all of your personal problems: Taking care of a family, repairing broken cans, picking up and dropping off cans, emptying trash for 3500 customers, by your self, personally. WHO CARES! This is a business, if you are overwhelmed, hire more employees.

Answer this:
1."If you are not in the wrong, why did you not respond to the BBB complaint I, and many others these last two months, have filed"?

2. Why is my homeowners managing firm sending emails to our residents suggesting that everyone switch to IESI trash services.

Why, if the price of gas caused you to stop picking up twice a week, arent you picking up twice a week now? Gas was over $4 a gallon then, now it is $1.84. Are you coming to pick up my trash today, Monday, and Friday? I didnt think so.

Bad Taste

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 06, 2008

It amazes me that you have the audacity to say these things. We put flyers on your cans and then when you called, I answered your qustions. I even offered to finish out the year which is what you paid for. Also since I am the only one who is in the office and you apparently think that I can be right by the phone all the time is a joke. Yes I remember when people call in because I am the only one who is in this office. I am also the only who fixes cans, picks up the trash that was left and I do it all with no complaints. I am out there trying to keep everyone happy while running a household and I have my two children with me all the time. I apologize that I am not fast enough for you. I mean that and I hope that you will have the patience since I am one person and I have to take care of 3500 customers ona personal basis. I would like to see you do that.
