As a frequesnt user of hotels and motels, I am familiar with the usual pricing of rooms and services. My wife and I arrived in Savannah GA on a business trip, only to find that many hotels were booked up. I called the Holiday Inn Express and was informed that that they had rooms available. It was only when I arrived that I was told that a usual room was now $240 per night. Since we could not find a rental car, we had no choice but to agree, with the explanation was that it was Spring Break.
As a person 70 years of age, I certainly did not fit the category of a spring breaker, but they adamantly refused to offer anything lower, with my two day stay mounting to more than $500. I later contacted Corporate who assured me they would make an adjustmen to my bill, yet the local manager refused. This is really price gouging at its best! The lousy bed also exacerbated my lower back condition. Caveat emptor.

It is always amazing how many people who claim they "know" how things should be, are actually among the people who know the least.
In your several decades of your business dealings did you ever hear of something called "supply and demand". It doesn't matter where you stay but EVERY hotel will charge you more during a busier period. This isn't price gouging. Is it a common occurance in your "business dealings" to find yourself away from home without having a car or hotel reseved in advance?
As a person 70 years of age, I certainly did not fit the category of a spring breaker, but they adamantly refused to offer anything lower
- So why didn't you leave and find another hotel? Oh that's right there were no rooms left.
I checked their prices on some representaive dates...Before taxes they averaged around $150-$200/night. So here is a question. If they were really into price gouging and this was truly the last room left in town. Why would they stop at $240/night? Why not $300/night, why not $500/night?
