About 18 months ago I purchased a 19 gallon Husky Air compressor from my local Home Depot Store. I normally use an air compressor for small tools and small jobs around the house. I paid 250.00 for this air compressor which was a relatively good price. The air compressor has only been used 10 to 15 hours since I purchased it and three weeks ago it quit working. I took it to a local authorized repair center for evaluation for repair and two weeks later they tell me it is beyond economic repair. The pump motor had failed and it would cost over 200.00 to repair.
I called Home Depot concerning the length of time I had use the product and asked if there were any type of warranty or assitance I could seek from them or the manufacturer. I was treated very harsh by the customer service person at the local Home Depot. She referred me to the manufacturer (which was the wrong one). Husky is manufactured by over a half dozen companies all over the world. I finally found it was manufactured by Powermate. After explaining the situation and asking for assistance from the company for the repair, I was told I got what I had paid for and if I had purchased a more expensive compressor maybe it would have worked longer.
I realize given the length of time from purchase to failure there was no hope of a warranty replacement of the entire compressor. However, I would expect given the amoount of time the product was used and how it was used they would stand behind their product and at least give me a discounted price for the part to fix it. Instead I paid 250.00 for something I hardly got to use and Home Depot, Husky Tools, nor Powermate will ever see my business again. And by the attitude and anamosity I got for asking, I don't think any of these companies care.

Warranty and Husky

Well given you said this is 18months out and unless it's a husky pro compressor
or indicated on the machine it self your warranty is most likely 1 year from the date of purchase and is expired but if it is/was still under warranty you should never take any power tools under warranty via THD anyplace but back to a THD and then have them send it out for repair if they won't exchange it.
You really need to talk directly to a manager if you had trouble with the peon at the returns register. The returns people are just normal cashiers with no real training on warranties and such and always have the receipt with you if its anything beyond a basic husky hand tool because when it comes to power tools they will not be able to help you.
Also any time you go for a warranty issue it is at the very least a good idea to ask them to call a hardware associate or if your lucky the hardware DH to look over the tool as all most any non-new hire in hardware will have better idea on warranties then a cashier and can instruct the cashier on it or call over a manager. If you still aren't getting the help you want ask to talk to the store manager if he or she is not there ask when they will be and call or come back that day. They will most likely do what you want with little trouble as long as you have the receipt and its under warranty.
If it is really out of warranty your sadly pretty much out of luck since it's around 6 months since it expired if it's a 1year and no one would really honor it after the fact with that much of a time period since expiration.

You also need to talk directly to a manager if you have any trouble with the peon at the returns register. The returns people are just normal cashiers with no special training on warranties or anything like that. Always have your receipt with you if its anything beyond a basic hand tool because when it comes to power tools they will not be able to help you.
Any time you go for a warranty issue at the very least ask them to call a hardware associate or if your lucky the hardware DH over to look the tool over as all most any non-new hire in hardware will have better idea on warranties then a cashier and can instruct the cashier on it or call over a manager. Another problem people run into is some of the department heads passing them selves off as mangers when the manger is on lunch or not in the building yet and they can be less the useless.

I agree with you that the product should have lasted longer, but you shouldn't be surprised by the manufacturer's response. The unit is out of warranty. If they gave a break to everyone that said they only used the product for 10-15 hrs., then everyone with a broken unit would just claim it was only used for a short time.
