I called Home Depot tonight 4-2-2008 to make an payoff settlement. But. they refused to accept an payoff settlement. My god, the interest rate are high. We worked very hard to get it pay off and we have Credit CAre One service to help us to lower the payment. The credit limit we have is $2,000. Now, it is $2,600 dues to late fee, Billed Finance Charges, etc. We offer to payoff at $1,800 but they REFUSED to accept it. They told me that they do not do settlement. Why is this company is the only one that does not do settlement payoff while other company do. We no longer have credit with Home Depot. We are trying so hard to get it off our back.
From now on, we will no longer shop at Home Depot anymore dues to very high interest rate...

"quick question-you purchased and item which malfunctioned. you returned it for refund BUT the CSR behind the counter only offered you 75% of the original purchase price. what kind of report would you file then?"
John, I don't know if you're going to check back up on this, but if you purchased the item on a Home Depot credit card the likely answer is that there was a 25% discount applied not to the price as shown when the item was scanned, but taken off the amount charged to the card. If it was a card purchase and if you want I can mail you copies of the transactions to see if that was the case. Not going to ask for personal info on a public forum but since you already have city and state in your profile along with 1st name, assuming that is real info, only other thing I'd need to look up the account is last name. Oh and if the purchase was more than since months ago, if you happen to know the date.

I had financial problems last year and the first part of this year. Some payments were late or slow. My interest rates went up and I contacted my credit card providers and was honest. At the interest rates they had given me, I would not be able to pay off the cards. Home Depot was not one of them, but the others, with the exception of American Express, lowered the interest rates and worked with me. Chase lowered my credit limits -- the other providers did not -- but all of them were very helpful. I have not missed or had a late payment on any of the cards that lowered my rates since and they have kept my rates down within a reasonable range.

Where is the RipOff?
You opened a Credit Card with Home Depot. As such you agreed to the terms of the card. One of these terms was the interest rate. If you didn't like the terms you should not have opened the account.
Just because a company won't accept a settlement does not make it a RipOff. In fact it could be said that YOU are the one trying to rip Home Depot off. Because you are trying to pay less than what you agreed to by the terms of the card.

If you don't like interest then use cash(Yea I know what an original concept). The last time I checked Home Depot and every other store does not charge interest for cash.

Yeah, we don't offer the option of a settlement unless the account is further than 60 days past due, and even then there has to be a very detailed and compeling reason from the customer regarding a permanent or chronic hardship. We don't want to lose the difference of $800 dollars in your case unless there is a supported reason that otherwise you couldn't pay back the full $2,600 at all. But if you are having trouble you can easily get onto a program to drop the payments to as much as .01% of the balance, $26 for 12 months, or $36 for 5 years until the balance is zero.
