This restaurant has been in our city a very long time. We used to eat at Hooks Restaurant often, however, we have noticed that over the past few years attendance must have dropped as they have been of fering specials and 2 for 1s in the summertime. I think they have been cutting corners too.
We visited Hooks last year after a long time away, and the place has gone way downhill. Its a buffet style restaurant for both lunch and dinner. The choices have cheapened and I discovered items such as pizza cooked from frozen, and what used to be the staple of fresh turkey with stuffing and gravy, and spareribs werent replaced with anything. Other item dishes just sat empty, and the person serving roast beef/ham was nowhere to be found.
I approached the waitress, whos reply was we are really busy tonight. A poor reply to say the least. Our bill was $13 each. A true rip-off.
We tried Hooks again this year to see if things had changed perhaps. Not. Ditto with the food selection, and the person serving the beef was about the place fatty meat onto my plate. I spoke to the waitress and asked this time to speak with the manager, but apparently he was nowhere to be found. I expected to at least be given courtesy and deduct something from the bill. Another rip-off.

Employees arrived at work May 25 to a sign that said the restaurant was closed.
What is happening now with the restaurant is unclear.
Owners of the restaurant, trustees of the Sook Ja Kim Real Estate Spousal Trust, are represented by a Toronto lawyer, and have contacted some employees, including Geddes, about returning to his job when or if the popular eatery reopens.
The owners posted a Notice of Termination of Commercial Lease to the management of Hooks Restaurant and manager Mike Nigro, on May 28.
The tenant hadnt paid rent, the termination notice stated, and barred anyone other than the owners from the property.
Locked-out employees were not given a record of employment, a document they need to qualify for employment insurance.
Another employee, who worked at Hooks as a server for seven years, contacted The Free Press by e-mail about the abrupt closing of the restaurant.
Me and my co-workers went into work on May 25 to see a note on the door saying Closed Today, the woman said.
We were all out of work in (the) blink of an eye. Also, we are owed about four weeks pay. Im owed about $1,400 (and) Im not the only one. There are about 15 people in the same situation.
People cant get jobs and havent been able to start EI because they have no proof they worked there. Some people are really struggling.
A notice on the restaurant door reads Under New Ownership and Opening Soon.
On Wednesday, several vendors who deal with the restaurant were also trying to contact the owners. They dont know the status of their ATMs or video games inside the restaurant.
