I want to share with everyone my HORRIBLE experience with Hope Thornhill Estate Sales & Appraisals.
I hope this review can help someone AVOID a great deal of personal property loss, frustration, and pain.
I sold my home in the LA area, and needed to empty the home and sell its contents using an estate sale company.
I found this company on the net and spoke to the owner Hope Thornhill.
She seemed honest at the time, and assured me the sale would be performed professionally; and my items sold would be noted or recorded. Unfortunately that was not the case!
I will provide a summary of what happened:
Days before the estate sale, she came down to compile a list of all of my sale items.
I now know after the fact, the main purpose was for her to filter out the good stuff for herself.
The day of the sale, I noticed the following items were not displayed for sale:
Jewelry (gold/diamond ring, gold necklace, watches), fine crystal, silver cutlery, paintings, purse, Dyson vacuum, power tools, paintings, and more.
I am sure there's more small items she kept, but I was told they were sold during the sale.
I was NOT presented with 1 single receipt for any of the items sold as promised. I never heard of a business that provides no sale receipts. I believe that's against the law.
She works entirely in cash with no trace ability, only her word which has proved to be worthless.

I only received about a 1/3 of what she estimated. When it was time to pay me, she was also short on the cash.
When I questioned her about this, she became very nasty and started to insult me in a very unclassy way.
I asked her about the missing items and receipts; the thought of using receipts and noting each sale on a ledger was conveniently not performed. It was almost like she was trying to hid her declared income.

The security she promised to be present at my home was not vigilant. Anyone could have stolen anything they wanted. One of the neighbors noticed someone leaving a ceramic figure without paying for it.
She took a long time to pay me, don't know why since she did not have to sum up any receipts.
Hopefully, this review will help someone from being ripped off from these scoundrels.
