On Thursday of last week, I logged onto Household Banks website and paid my MasterCard account in full. This morning, I received a confirmation e-mail stating payment had been received. I logged onto the website to make sure I had a 0 balance and noticed even though I had a 0 balance, and the payment was showing, my credit limit was $6.

I called Household Bank and inquired why my my credit limit was not correct and was told my payment was being held for 5-14 days. As of Friday, April 30, 2004 the payment has been debited from my checking account. I paid well before the statement date and find it absolutely ridiculous that Household would hold a payment on my account for up to two weeks when I've never had this happen to me before.

I requested my account be closed because of this. I will not be treated as if I am a customer who has been late or one who caused Household bank to assume I would not pay my account. As a matter of fact, I have ALWAYS paid well above the minimum due and have paid the account balance in full more than a few times, I've not once been late, never.

The lady in your retention department attempted to get me to keep this account by offering me a credit line increase of $100. Keep your charity Household Bank. If you can not treat a good paying customer as such, you will not be making any more money off of me.

I have requested that my account be closed. To give you an idea of what you will be losing out on. I typically charge my account up to almost the credit limit each month and usually have it paid off completely within 2-3 months. As my credit line increased, so did my spending. I am sure I would have continued in the same fashion had Household treated me as a customer instead of a deadbeat.

While I'm sure you have thousands of other customers who will be treated like this this one will not.

In the future I plan to take my business to other banks, and I'll urge others to avoid banking with you.

Stop putting holds on payments made to you via electronic payment on customer in good standing. Understand that a person gets a Household Card usually because of prior credit problems and they use it to rebuild credit. After showing responsibility with paying the Household Card we then have options for credit with companies who treat their customers like customers, not deadbeats.
