I called this guy on my way back from a job because my trailer brakes had not been wired right and had stopped working. It had not been a big deal because i was relying on my truck brakes. But on this day my truck brakes started grinding metal and were so bad i thought i was going to wreck. We found him on Craiglist and he ageed to do the work at my home. He arrived several hours later and started trying to diagnose the wiring issue and then tells me that he wont work do the job unless he gets the money up front. First he tells me 450.00 then down to 250.00 then says he does not have the ability to take credit cards because he does not have a bank account.
Then we drive to AUto zone he has me purchase brake pads, drums, two rear lights for my trailer(which were not needed because the lights on the trailer were new) and misc parts totalling over 300.00. Then has me stop at atm and pull out the 250 he was charging.
We get back to my house it is now 10:30pm and he proceeds to fix the brake wiring . Five hours later he still had not figured out how to wire the harness, none of it was working , he had not touched the truck brakes and he tells me he is done. He wired it right and he does not know why it is not working. We argued for a bit he starts telling me he was not hired to do the brakes(neither the trucks or the trailers) that he was hired to do the wiring for the lights and what was i going to do fight him over it? I stated simply no, i would just call the police and explain to them what had happening. I repeated that i had to be at work at 6am and he could not leave me with no brakes at all and my money in his pocket. He then backs down and I thought concentrated on the work. Another two hours, its after 4am and he explains again that he had fixed the lights and the emergency brake away but could not get the braking system inside the truck to work and says it must be fried and i had to buy a new one . He then shows me how i would hve to wire it and says everything will work perfectly once i installed the new one.
Two and a half hours later i am at Auto zone and buy a new controller and wired it exactly as he stated. The brakes never worked, i had no choice but to go to work pulling the trailer with no brakes. I get there fine, but on the way home, as soon as I get on the highway I was doing about 50 miles an hour and my truck lurches and drops instantly down to 40 miles an hour. I had never experienced that before and didnt understand it. Then less then a minute later I am flagged down by a passing motorist yelling at me that my trailer is on fire. I imediately pull over; we open the doors and are overwhelmed by smell of electrical fire and burning plastic. Following the smell we see the trailer breakaway battery is swollen and smoldering. On closer inspection we see that the positive and negative wires are crossed and wired the wrong way. So This guy was angry at me for not letting him take off without even finishing anything he was hired to do so he purposefully wired the battery to start a fire. When I got home I did call him. He was supposed to offer a 6 month warranty on his work. He tells me he will call me back and just texted me this: "Not that I'm a little bit cuz I ccan really tell you how the f*** I felt yesterday i stayed at your house from 8:30 pm till 4:30 am and you have the nerve to b****! Didnt want to ask you what you were going to do about it. F*** this. I told you I would rewire the trailer and I did. " Needless to say it cost me another 215.00 to replace what was fried and i still do not have working brakes on the trailer. There is no 6 month anything, he got in over his head. Stay away from this guy he does not know what he is doing and does not need to be working on complex issues. I learned the hard way; check peoples records before you have them take a job for you . I waited till after but found long criminal record also.
