If you have been a victim of HSN illegally running  a credit report without your consent after placing a purchase, please take out five minutes and report this to the Federal Trade Commission.  It is very easy if you go the FTC website.  It only takes five minutes.  I have filed a formal complaint.

Brief details:

After placing an electronic purchase (Camcorder and laptop) and verbally requesting the flex pay  over the the phone, they placed an authorized charge against my bank card equal to one of six payments plus tax and shipping.  The other five were to follow monthy.

When I placed the order I only provided them with my name, address and bank card information.  I never filled out an application, never provided my social security number nor consented in any manner to having them run my credit report.  In fact I have a credit freeze with all three bureaus to prevent such things.

A few days later I received a message to call the HSN flex pay department.  I called and was told that I was not eligible for the flex pay on the laptop and that I would be receiving a letter from Experian.  Funny thing - No one could provide me with an explaination on how they could pull a credit report without my social security number or consent.

If you have been a victim of this, I urged to file a formal complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.  What this company and Experian is doing violates the law.  Just imagine if everytime you placed a purchase the company ran a credit report on you without your knowledge or consent.

This can damage your credit because as inquiries lower your credit score.

Don't let them get away with this.
