I have a sever blood clotting disorder and I am treated at Duke University Medical Center for this by a Nationally acclaimed doctor.
In May of 2006 I signed up for a Humana Gold Polcicy. I specifically asked the following questions:
1) When does this policy take effect?
Answer June 1, 2006
2) Does this policy cover Lovenox (a prescribed drug for this clotting disorder)?
Answer Yes but it is a specialty drug and has a $60.00 Copay
3) Does this policy cover Bencar HCT (a prescribed drug for hypertension)
Answer Yes but it is a specialty drug and has a $60.00 copay.
I went through all of the other medications that I have and the representative said that Human would cover with either a $10.00 or $30.00 copay depending on whether they were generic or formulary drugs.
First of all I had an appointment with my Doctor at Duke University I called and questioned before I left to make this appointment (it is a 12 hour drive), and Humana stated that I have coveraged and the insurance card will be sent to me. I now have nearly a $1000.00 bill from my doctor at Duke for an office visit, Humana stated my insurance did not start until July 1, 2006.
I went to the pharmacy to fill the Lovenox prescription. I have a $3,592.26 Copay for this I cannot pay that.
I have over a $200.00 for the Benicar HCT
I had Duke University look into this, and Humana tells them that the medicine is covered I go back and check and I still have over $3500 copay.
I check with Duke again they said that the inusrance has a $500.00 copay, So I check again with the pharmacy and my copay is still over $3500.00.
Humana is not only lying to me but they are also lying to my doctors.
I would urge any body not to choose Humana for any type of Insurance, because they totally lie outloud.

Here's what's really happening. If your coverage started a month later than expected, easy answer here. For whatever reason, you turned in info late past their deadline. Second, you don't have a 3500.00 copay, it's a deductible of some sort. Read the documents before you flame an innocent companies name.

Major problems

I am certainly glad the Adolf from Indiana has no specific medical problems. Because I just got released from the hospital for mine, a stay that could have been totally avoided if this company would have covered medications as prommised.
I not only had to hospitalized, but could have died from complications.
Oh well to keep from dying all I have to do is pay $3526.92 a month for this drug, I don't get that much on my social security.
I would like to take the time to thank the person who donated some medicine for me!

Fortunately, not my experience with Humana Gold.....

My wife and I both have Humana Gold PFFS(Medicare Health Care) policies. We also have office and prescription copayments. This policy does NOT have any premiums, which in my opinion and experience more than offsets the copayments.
.
This insurance has always been accepted when presented to local physicans, pharmacies, and the local hospital.
.
I'm sorry to read of your financial dilemma, but be advised your opinion of avoiding Humana is not shared by all policy holders. I have found it to be the correct choice.
.
Pre-existing conditions when dealing with a health care related insurer can be like walking in a mine field. I can't help but wonder if this might account at least in part for the problems you're experiencing.
.
I wish you the best of luck.
