I always liked to draw, and was/am good at it. After high school I did what many kids do and took a lot of time off before attending college.
Years later, as a grown man, I wanted a fresh start and decided to put my talent to use. I was stuck in a daily doldrum and needed to brighten my future very badly.
Enter IADT Detroit. There is one real art college in Detroit, a great one...but it is very expensive and IADT sounded like a good alternative. IADT comes at people like me (vulnerable and desperate) and sells them lies. They say they are cheaper. They are not. They lie. They say their degrees are worth something. They don't even function well as toilet paper. They lie. They weren't even granted the rights to give out degrees when I was attending!
I should have known better when they never even asked to see my portfolio before accepting me. There were students in my drawing classes that didn't even LIKE or KNOW HOW to draw. HOW do these people get accepted into 'art college'?
Students hung out in the parking lot and drank. One of my INSTRUCTORS came to class stuffing McDonalds in her face and stammering. I found out later that she was fresh from the bar on her lunch break and decided to teach our $1,000+ class. Two of the 'instructors' I had were simply working in their fields, one being a self-taught graphic web designer with no masters degree.
The last straw came when I was a student there and the President of the school was indicted on charges of embezzlement! No lie! When I left the school they sent me a BILL for $400 that they said I owed them from the stipend check on my loan!
Now here I am a couple years later with almost $25,000 in loans from that hack 'school' over my head with interest rates to the ceiling (that the school set up for me, btw. They had all the papers and all I had to do was sign. Again, they took advantage of me.) I have since asked professionals in the art field about IADT and they all say the same thing: IADT is a scam. A farce.
At least my credits from when I left mid-semester don't transfer...oh wait...NONE of the credits transfer.
If you are a young, promising talent in the DO NOT make the mistake I did and trust the sleazy salesmen from IADT. They will lie to you and fleece your future.
