I attended IADT in July 2004 with federal grants. I am disabled and qualified for free education grants through OVR. I was told that I would not be paying for anything. After 2 months of living in the housing they provided at Washington Plaza on Centre Ave. in downtown pittsburgh, I moved to the southside into my own apartment with others I met in college.
When I had received a letter stating that I owed $1687 for housing after being enrolled for 8 months, I found out about the loan. IADT had signed a federal loan in my name for "collegiate housing" though sallie mae in 3 installments of $2685 each. I left the school immediately before they could disperse the other 2 loans that were waiting to come. I still owe $1687, which does not seem like a lot of debt, but it has been in default for 5 years because I am unable to pay it, due to being on disability. I dont even believe it is right for me to pay for something I did not even agree to or sign for in the first place.
I have since been trying to enroll back into school at a place that isnt going to lie and deceive its students, but since my loan is defaulted I am unable to qualify for any further funding until this is resolved.
Are there any options for me? Are there any class action lawsuits against IADT?
