I called Identity IQ to ask about and confirm the existence of their free trial. I was able to confirm that the first month was a 30 day free trial, and decided to give it a try. I signed up with Identity IQ to get my credit report and to see if their services could benefit me. I checked my credit report once I signed up, and although the credit scored did not accurately reflect my current scores, I though maybe they were just a couple days behind. So, I chose not to cancel right that moment. I also wanted to see how the service worked regarding monitoring. So, I printed out the detailed report.

About a week later, I checked back to see if anything had changed. No alterations of any kind to my report could be found. I printed out that detailed report, as well. Another week went by and another report with no changes. Finally, after just over three weeks, I logged in to see my profile. Once again, no changes.

I am in the process of cleaning up two old issues with two of the bureaus, and I am buying a house, and I have also set up two new credit cards and a small loan on a CD I took out with my bank. So, there is quite a bit of activity. In 28 days, not a single thing changed according to Identity IQ. Clearly, this was not a service for which I wanted to pay, much less, use to assist with my credit improvements.

Identity IQ makes it difficult to cancel, of course. You can't do it online, and you can't do it via email. I called the number. Once I got a person online who could help me with the cancellation, the woman immediately went into a scripted attempt to question my decision to cancel. I had to tell her four times that I wasn't interested or worried about the pitfalls of not using Identity IQ. She finally cancelled my account and told me I had not been charged. After three days, I finally received an email stating the same.  Note the dates.  The cancellation date ensures I missed the cutoff even though I called on the 21st.  My phone bill supports this fact.

Six days later, I received my credit card statement. Identity IQ had charged me. I immediately called and spoke with a representative and told her the situation. She flatly stated that I had not enrolled in the free trial and that I had been charged because I had enrolled in the $29.99 monthly plan, there was no free trial, and that I would not be refunded. I told her I had cancelled on time and that I wanted my money returned. She refused and said, "You aren't getting a refund. Is there anything else?" I told her I would be filing a complaint with the BBB, and she said that was fine, and she hung up on me.
