In 2009 my wife investigated Dental family plans online that would incorporate the needs of our 12 year old daughter who needed braces, and she decided on Willamette Dental. It was also during this time that my wife decided on a life insurance policy on herself and daughter and our son who was to be born in Dec 2009. Somehow during this time frame, IHC Group took out an unauthorized policy for just the parents(me and my wife)on a fraudulently executed esign document under the Bay Dental Plan and than executed unauthorized bank drafts that has been occuring for the past 6 years! I(the husband) am meticulous about our bank account and look at ever line item withdrawal to insure I understand the payments and what the purposes are for. The reason why this particular issue has never been questioned for such a long period of time is because the generic description in the bank ledger just says "INS", and it was my belief this was part of our insurance policy deductions for our children and never questioned the ledger until we changed bank accounts. Compare this to Willamette Dental in our auto pay feature and it spells out "Dental" in the bank ledger.
When I called the 800 number to provide the new account information and was confirming an insurance policy for one of our children, I was shocked to learn this was in fact another Dental plan through this company called IHC Group. The customer service representative told me that my wife initiated this policy in 2009 and when I found out that it only included ourselves and not our children, we knew this was not something that any one of us would initiate as any dental plan authorized and directed by us would have our children also included.
I had a follow up discussion with the supervisor at 815-316-6710 and requested a follow up audit on the esign and the answer was simply that it was on our bank statement all of this time, and she could care less about the manner in which this policy came about in the first place. My request for a refund was denied and when I asked them if they ever found it interesting that there was NO activity on this account, office visits, co pays, etc., it was not their problem.
We would have caught this problem sometime during the first year if in fact they would have sent us Dental cards just like Willamette Dental does. We have received absolutely no letters, yearly privacy statements or any type of customer service courtesy follow up whatsoever during these last 6 years. As we researched this company, we also found out that other consumers have the same complaint and so there is a track record here with this company also with similar consumers like ourselves.
This has been a horrible scenario for us, being unemployed at times, struggling to pay bills and then to know that during this time an insurance company would dare do something like this to us is horrible. We have initiated our compaint with the Washington State Insurance Commissioners office and have requested a refund of ALL premiums. Perhaps an attorney will find it interesting that we have had no written correspondence or emails from this company for the past 6 years.
