We tested all the sample mattresses at Ikea. Every single floor model they had, to make sure we liked it. We then tried it again and again. We tried this floor model out for as long as possible in a busy store. After laying on all the floor samples, we found the Matrand, Memory Foam + Latex mattress to be the softest bed with the lowest price.
Upon getting it home, it was an entirely different story. The beds are roll-packed, which means they are tightly compressed for shipping and storing. We unpacked it and gave it the recommended 3 days to expand. I slept on it the first night for 5 minutes and it felt like sleeping on a brick. The second night was not any better. The mattress we purchased and brought home is NOTHING at all like the floor sample we tried.
Ikea has a "Love it or Exchange it" policy on mattresses, where a consumer may purchase a mattress and exchange it ONCE in a 90-day period. However, I'm completely gun-shy now. I thought I was getting one kind of mattress and I got something completely different. Why would I want to go through that again? I'm going to spend MORE money at this store, only to discover that the mattress is still too hard and completely different from the floor model I tried?
I plan on calling Ikea today to talk with a duty manager to explain the problem and see if there is anything they can do. Otherwise, I am out $500 for a mattress that is nothing like what I thought I was getting from a store that gives us little to no recourse or rememdy.

Ask to exchange for the floor model

Call them and ask if you can exchange the mattress for the one one the floor, since that felt better to your liking. Don't worry, floor models arent made differently and dont have cooties.
