I worked for Impact for over ten years. It was We're ready to Assemble in those days. Then about three years ago, I began having trouble. I was 62 and approaching retirement age. First, our mileage payment went down. Then our pay. Then hours went up. I hated working stores and preferred people's houses. Everyone knew it and I usually did that kind of work, but it seemed the stores were where I was being sent all the time. Target had scheduled a roll out for the first of the month, a weekday. I was ready, but they weren't. They rescheduled to Saturday, one of the store's busiest days and the office told me I would have to do the rollout around the customers. one- I had never worked weekends in all the time I was there. two- doing this kind of work with people walking all around is darn near impossible.

I said no. They told me work or I wouldn't work next week. I quit. I wasn't really given a choice. Then they told me I couldn't get unemployment or my vacation pay. It took finding and quoting the actual statute to make them release my pay. They were very unpleasant about it.

It had been bad for a while. I often went to customers houses and found that they had been lied to again and again regarding schedules, etc.

Because of the timing and the way they had been acting, I believe this came about because of my age and nearing retirement. It just seems as if these people only do the right thing when you threaten them with court action.

I ended up going out on my own. People appreciate assemblers who keep their promises.
