These are a few websites out of hundreds of similar scams. However at least these three are owned by the same person/people. iMusicShare.com, DownloadGuru.com and mp3run.com.
They claim that once you sign up for $18.88/year or $24/two years, you will be able to download unlimited music, movies, and any other kind of computer file. They say their service is legal.
What they don't tell you is that they aren't really selling anything at all. Once you sign up, they give you a link to download software that is available to everyone already for free. It's p2p software, which is used to trade music illegally.
Some of the software they link to is spyware, which once on your computer tracks your internet use for the benefit of advertisers.
They say they offer a "100% satisfaction gaurantee" and that if you aren't satisfied, you can request a refund and they will offer you a refund. Well, you can request one, but you won't get it.
The site even features a quote from the New York Times. If you reference the quoted NYT article, you will find that it's an article about scam websites, and the quote is the owner of iMusicShare, speaking on the condition of anonymity, somewhere in Florida.
They took my money. I believe they did it illegally, and am disputing the charges.
I am not an internet newbie. I already knew about how to download music illegally. I was trying to do it legally, and any reasonable person would think that's what this site was offering. It intentionally misleads. I also believe their testimonials to be fake.
I work hard to pay my bills. Someone in Florida is probably making at least $100,000 a year doing nothing but owning a cheating wesbsite. That is not right and they should have their sites removed, give the money back, and be punished by the courts.
