This is a warning to watch out for these guys. They are taking advantage of people who pop up in the newspapers. If these people target you, they will cause a lot of aggrivation in your life. I waited to tell this story, until we were able to get away from the collection harrassment. I will post this in several places, to warn others.

A charity that I assist had an article in the minneapolis paper. The sales people from a company called In the news Inc from Tampa Florida called EVERY person mentioned in the article and ALL the sponsor companies listed in our advertising. They told each of us that we should buy a permenant copy of the article as a secret, surprise gift for the committee chairman. I told them I would think about it, and look at the web site.http:www.inthenewsonline.com

10 days later this big, huge box showed up on our loading dock. That's not "policy", so it sat in the warehouse supervisors ofc, until he thought to
call me.

Here is the trick that makes me mad. Without ordering a product [for $250 by the way] they sent it to what they knew was a wrong address, but the bills started coming in the mail to the correct address.

By the time I saw this wall plaque thing, it was past the 10 days "return period" and they wanted me to pay for it. A very polite, but inflexible lady in customer services tells me I have no choice new. She doesn't want to hear about not ordering or sending to a wrong address.... her response was, well you said you saw the plaque, so it wasn't a wrong address. very, very tricky scam.

Remember I said they called everyone. Here's how I know. At the next meeting, 4 of these wall plaques showed up as gifts, NOT including mine. for a total of 5 wall plaques @ slightly different prices too. ha ha ha

It turns out the chairman did like one, so he personally paid for it and we just finished the harrassing process of getting these people off of the members back about bill collectors. I wonder how many people just pay to make the collection calls stop, or how many they sell to people who say, why not, it was a once in a lifetime newspaper article on me.

Be warned, In the news Inc will turn you over to some rude telephone bill collectors. I don't know, but I'll bet they get a % of that money too. Just say NO... If anything comes in the mail or a wall plaque arrives in the shipping, call them immediately and start the complaint process.

The Better Business Bureau in Tampa Florida is worthless. One member here, tried to have our Minneapolis BBB call on our behalf. They all operate
independently.. no luck.

Now that we are all disconnected from these people, I waited to warn others.... I will post this on several complaint sites.

After seeing this report we researched our database for the last calendar year and cannot find any matching pattern that would alert us to the validity of this report. From the information "Tony-oeo" gave we cross referenced sales from every publication in Minnesota and attempted to find multiple sales from a single date of any publication. We cannot find this occourance. Simply stated, we have an excellent BBB rating of A-, our primary focus is developing repeat customers and we handle disputes in a more than fair manner. We have been nominated and were finaists for the Small Business of the Year Awards bu the Tampa Bay Business Journal. Not something a scam company opens it's doors for.
Not having any specifics to go by, it pains us to see someone so upset and poweless to make things right.
The truth is that In The News (an American owned and operated company) has competitors who have call centers in the Philippines whom target feature articles in this manner. They do not fully understand our culture and to them it's merely a sale that they get paid a stipend on for sending out a wall plaque.
For anyone interested. In The News does subscribe to approx. 5400 publications. We scan these publications for positive news stories and contact the companies, individuals, agents, etc. to determine if they have an interest in preserving their feature. We have for 22 years offered to mount and preserve their articles, send them out for inspection and give them ample time to determine if they would like to keep the mounting or return it. We make every effort to make the return process simple and cost effective , with a majority of the returns only costing a postage stamp to accomplish. We have cancelled merchandise well after the 10 day inspection basis and will continue to do so.
What "Tony-oeo" has described in his report is in reality one individual (whom has this territory and has for years) calling multiple people and "selling" them the mounting ALL WITH THE INTENT ON PRESENTING IT AS A GIFT TO 1 INDIVIDUAL? This makes no sense whatsoever. This rep would be subject to (in Tony-oeo's scenario) 1 paid sale and 4 returns. Since we charge back for retuns this rep would actually experience an overall loss from this sale??? This rep has worked for us for 15 years and is one of our most intelligent and honest sales reps.
The billing and shipping addresses beig different is also a highly visible pattern we can spot to which we also cannot locate this incident

Tony-oeo, if you read this please contact me directly. Todd Knowlson , In The News 1-800-548-3993. If this is an honest, sincere report i promise you satisfaction. If we have done wrong I need to know about it. If I have somehow misinterpeted your report, furnish me with details so I can address this situation correctly. We strive to make things right and our track record proves that point.
