Today, a woman from accounting walks in my office and hands me a faxed invoice from Insight Marketing Solutions. Right away I recognized the name. They have sent invoices in the past for $379.99 for their "US Business Registry Listing" service which I have generally thrown in the trash. It's not an advertisement, it is an invoice with all kinds of official looking details trying to make you believe that you owe them money when in reality they are just trying to get you to sign up for their service. I know first hand that we would not subscribe to such a listing since we are a manufacturer and don't deal with the general public. Anyway, this one was different because a gentleman from Insight Marketing Solutions called our accounting deparment asking why we have not paid our late bill. Well interestingly enough, he stated that one of our employees by name had authorized the service. I looked at the invoice and this time there was indeed one of our employees name as the contact and even a name of the woman in accounting as accounts payable. The employees have neither authorized anything and the employee that supposedly authorized it is a secretary to our licensing director who would have possibly answered the phone if this guy had called. In addition, the whois lookup of the website gives you Domains by Proxy hidden details so it's obvious they don't want you to know who they actually are. I did some searching the net and did not see people complaining about it online likely because it gets faxed even though it's for an internet service. I am hoping this gets picked up by the net and put at the top of the search list so when someone else from another company gets an invoice and wants to know who the company is and what they are trying to do.

Company Retaliation

AUTHOR: Maisto - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 03, 2010

The owner called me a few months ago trying to get me to take this down after reading this report. He must have known which company he was trying to defraud to get my information and contact me directly. He continued to lie about authorization and that we owed the money. He was a real jerk on the phone so I remember the call well. Today I received a copy of a voicemail in which this guy tried to get in touch with the owner of our company to pretend to be a customer and get me fired. I am a senior U.S. manager here in a company of over 10,000 employees world wide so the voicemail was passed directly to me and I recognized this loosers voice right off. Nice try. Hope some of your friends and family watch this video, recognize your voice and know what kind of person you really are. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBLX7HEXgZQ

FTC already banned these guys in 2003?

AUTHOR: Maisto - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Today I was just following up with this and found a press release from the FTC for the same thing. Seems it was supposed to have been resolved in 2003. Looks like they may have just changed their company name from what I can tell. Here is the article http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2003/07/ambus.shtm
