*Consumer Comment: Avid Instant Checkmate User
I signed up for one report and this company won't stop charging my card! I had to cancel my credit card and get a new account number, do not sign up for their services, their information is inaccurate and wrong.

I'm a customer and user of this service and when I signed up the charges were made very clear to me. During the signup process it took me through one step at a time and stated more than once that there would be a recurring charge for the background reports. Where they make their money is the added reports such as phone number searches, arrest records, etc.
With your membership you get a basic background report and each section has some information. If you want more in-depth information on any of those sections there will be another charge. Depending on what that info is, it may be a monthly charge or a one time annual charge. Example: I have the monthly service for the unlimited general background reports, then I added the unlimited phone search option which is a small fee per month but you are just charged a one-time annual charge. Instead of paying another $2 per month for the phone search, I paid about $25 for an entire year of unlimited phone searching.
This seems like a case of "I want my report so I'll just click through this stuff" case and you ended up not unchecking, or checking a box and got the monthly service instead. This site has been a big asset for what I use it for and I haven't had any issues at all with them.
For those reading this complaint on Instant Checkmate, please....please pay attention when signing up for anything online that you read the fine print and look for those check boxes that get slid in there where they are missed. If you don't pay attention you find yourself in a pickle with something like this or with 5 different search toolbars installed on your browser. Read before you click.
