I went to instant tax services to file my 2010 taxes last year along with 3 other members of my family and their friends. The lady working our cases added a gas credit (for farmers) without our knowledge. She told all of us we were getting a very high amount. When we didn't receive our money in February like we were told we contacted her and she said it might be a few more weeks. After a month or two we all received letters from IRS saying we were being audited for fraud and could face a $5000 fine if we didn't get an amended return in 30 days. The instant tax service employee, Amanda, filed the amendments as soon as she found out she got caught. She forged our signatures on them. I didn't want to give her the credit so I went to h&r block and paid $80 for an amended return. I had to borrow the money from a friend. Because of what she did I lost my car in feb which caused me to lose my job and the apartment that I put a deposit on already. I had to live with my sister sharing one room with my two kids. Her taxes were also done by them and she took out two car loans to get a new car anticipating a large amount. She had to get a car because a drunk driver totaled out her car on new years of 2011. When we all found out our real income tax amounts sisters went from $6000 to $1000. My parents had to consign the loans so she wouldn't lose her car. This lady Amanda did it to EVERYONE who filed their taxes with her. When we went to complain to the boss there was more than 40 people there to complain as well. No charges were ever filed against her. She still got paid for all of our taxes and she disappeared. I did not recieve my return until November of 2011 after 9 months of calling and writing the IRS. The boss Rob was of no help at all. He only refunded half of our money which was 250. 500 is an outrageous price for tax preparation. He asked us to come back for 2011 so he could make it up to us. He said he would do it for free. So me and my boyfriend went. First he lied and said my boyfriend cannot claim my kids but he can he has been the sole provider for an entire year. Then he had my boyfriend sign the papers and he charged him 350 for the preparation. I am extremely mad and upset and will do anything so that everyone knows not to go there!!!

Its still your responsibility

I laugh at these reports every time how a tax company caused them to lose everything since they got caught trying to fudge their tax returns. Bottom line and resolution of this situation is fairly simple. On the bottom of your tax forms it says even though someone else may have filled out the paperwork you are solely responsible for the complete accuracy of the report. If you signed the report then you approved the incorrect tax data on the form. If you did not agree with the tax paperwork then you should have not signed the document as being 100% accurate. The issue with the drunk driver had nothing to do with your returns. The fact that you had to borrow money had nothing to do with it either; it is no ones responsibility except your own responsibility to make sure every deduction is 100% truthful.
You got what you deserved.
