On the 6 June 2008 I used Google to search for the Adobe website in order to download the latest version of Adobe Reader. The search keywords i used were "download pdf."

At the very top of the search results under the heading "Download Adobe PDF 8.1" the site "Adobe.PDFpro-2008.com" is listed. Assuming this site to be that of Adobe given the title wording, I proceeded to download a 3 year license for a total of $41.31 for the PDF software on offer.

After downloading I encountered a problem during installation of the software.
This I ignored as there was no other option but to continue. When attempting to run the software a number of problems were encountered. The software would not load any existing pdf files and any other files loaded for conversion to pdf were printed directly to the printer with nothing appearing on the monitor to allow conversion.

This is when I became suspicious and returned to the Google search sites and located the authentic Adobe site. This is when I realized that I had been conned into purchasing a non-Adobe product by a site pretending to be Adobe. I also did a search and came across a report of a similar problem with Interactivebrands.com encountered by another. This led me to the link to this site "Ripoff Report".

I contacted my credit card company to suspend payment but apparently the transaction had already gone through and was irreversible. They however did advise me to lodge a complaint through their Dispute Department.

I have also since emailed Interactive Brands to lodge my complaint regarding the pretence to be Adobe and to get technical assistance to fix the problems explained above. However, from the response below it is quite clear I have been conned BIG TIME !!! These people should be brought to justice.

Response after query from customer support team (below my query sent).

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your email. We apologize for any difficulties you may be experiencing with the program you obtained through your membership.

Unfortunately, there are definite technical difficulties to our featured program. Please wait for new release of PDF Suite that will include updates and eliminate disadvantages of the prior version.

We apologize for any inconveniences that have been caused due to the issue.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.

I have just purchased this software thinking that it's source was Adobe Acrobat Reader. I have paid $41.31USD. The software gives me an ERROR during installation of ERROR "specified port is unavailable" once the file is being accessed PDFPrnInst.dll.
I have ignored this error and continued the installation BUT any file loaded is immediately printed and does not show on the monitor. I trust you can solve this problem.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Suggestions

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, June 06, 2008

1. Visit the Adobe website at www.adobe.com to download Adobe Reader. It is FREE!!! While you're on the Adobe.com website, also click the contact us button and REPORT these bozos to Adobe for copyright infringment! Inform Adobe.com of the compete URL for their website and also inform them that they are a paid sponsor who shows at the top of the list when you "google" for adobe reader. Adobe aggresively pursues copyright and trademark infringments.

2. Call your credit card company and dispute the charge as fraudulent on their part. They sold you product that they have no right to sell, copyright infringment- Adobe is the copyright holder. Your cc company should reverse the charge.

3. Vist the google website, use contact us to complain that they are accepting monies to "sponsor" a website that is fraudulent! Also point out to them that you have reported this to Adobe.com.

Good luck.
