This best explains my report.

Guest relations manager,

I am writing to let you know how I now truly understand what the term Let the buyer beware means. My complaint is referring to Confirmation numbers 68433910 and 62339656. I made reservations on line for two rooms for two nights (Nov. 2-4) at the Holiday Inn in Clarion, PA. I booked it at the lowest rate shown on the web site. I saw the cancellation policy that stated Cancelling your reservation or failing to show will result in a charge for the entire stay per room to your credit card. Taxes may apply. This was in red font at the bottom of my confirmation. I did not read above where it also states that no refunds if cancelled or changed. We had a change of plans that does not allow us to stay both nights, only the first night. I have tried to change the reservation and have now been told by the hotel, and two different guest relations people, one in Headquarters in Atlanta that sorry about your luck, but you are now stuck with the entire bill for $457.92 for the one night that we can now stay! You should feel good that your people are trained to adamantly maintain the policies of your company rather than taking care of the needs of your customer when an unforeseeable change in plans occurs.

You got me! I was going to save a whopping $10 per night per room because of this deal!

Please cancel my Priority Club rewards number: and understand that I will never stay in another Intercontinental Hotels Group hotel. I will also make it a point to let all friends and business associates know what I think of your company. I will also copy the Better Business Bureau in Atlanta to encourage them to communicate with their members to make absolutely certain that they always read the fine print on the internet because you have no recourse when dealing with the Intercontinental Hotels Group and their online offers.

I will be staying in your Holiday Inn on November 2 but it will be the last time that I do so. I hope you put my $230.00 to good use. I can only hope I can cost you many times that in lost revenues in the future!

Well, I must say we will miss you... though not for long because every single day working in the call center I get a call from someone who is pissed at Marriot, Wyndam, Choice, or Hilton for the exact same reason you are mad at IHG. Our policies are not that dissimilar than the majority of hotel chains... so I'm willing to bet that some time in the future we will be seeing your report for some other chain that also refused to change their advance purchase policy "just this once" and you will never go to them again, then eventually you'll have the same problem with another chain and eventually there will be nowhere you can stay.

Now, not knowing you personally I can't say that is guaranteed to happen with you, but having worked in the travel industry for several years now (both at hotels and in car rental places) and having friends who have worked in the travel industry (everything from airlines to hotels) we have seen this far too often. We'll "lose" a customer when they get upset at a policy and at the same time gain a customer who is upset at the exact same policy at a different place... and eventually both people realize that both companies have the same policy and they either stop using either company or go back to the company they had left in the first place.
