Like the other folks in the thread on Interlock Roofing, I have found them to be unscrupulous. Fortunately I did not proceed to actually have them install the roof. Why?

Well, Interlock and I signed a contract for a roof replacement, roof repair and new addition roof. To be sure that I would not experience a bait and switch, I had the sales person write in the contract the maximum actual amount for everything, including the repairs for damage that a tree caused in a storm. Everything was arranged, signed, and I received a confirmation from the company in the mail, including the amount. The sales agent, Glen, had told my general contractor that they would begin installing the next week. On that Monday Glen called me to tell me that the costs of the damage was not in the bid. I referred him back to the contract, and he tried to wiggle out of it. Fortunately I had sensed a level of unscrupulous nature from Glen at the beginning...not sure if it just was that he was a salesman or something more sinister...so I not only verbally confirmed with him at signing that the damaged part fixing was included in the contract, but also had him write it down...and he made a note indicating that the total cost for the damage and new roof would not be more than $14,000. He told me, "Oh, it will be much less than that, but I can put in that amount if that makes you feel more comfortable." Well, was I glad I insisted he write that in.

So when Glen calls me to tell me the cost is going to be higher than the contracted amount, I referred him to the contract. He said they would not do the roof for that amount. "So if you are not doing the roof for the amount we have in this contract, and thus you are not willing to fulfill the contract, then what is my recourse...contacting BBB?" He said, "Go ahead and contact BBB." At the end of that conversation he said that the big boss was out of town and would review the situation and get back to me by the next Monday. That next week came and went, no response. I filed the BBB complaint, they played the rebuttal game a day or so later, and then I replied, adding direct quotes from the contract: http://seatac.ebindr.com/complaint/view/22137567/c/qvon4q#
I have not heard a word since.

BTW, notice the back of their contract where you commit that you will not file suit without first giving them a chance to rectify. I served them notice that I was filing a complaint with the WA State L & I about their license within the BBB complaint. And I sent them an email as well. The fact is, both my general contractor and I have called and left messages numerous times, and I have sent emails. The only response I got back was a rebuttal to the BBB complaint; there was no communication to me directly as promised. The manager who promised to contact me still never has. Before anything further can proceed with my house remodel I have to have the roof flashing in, and so their stall tactics now have added cost to my building project, and I am having to go through the whole roofing bid process again at this late time in the game. It is nearly Decemeber, and I signed the contract with them in August so that there would not be any delays.

As I have sought out other roofers, without giving the name of Interlock, as I described the situation that happened, they have said, "Is this Interlock you are referring to?" Ah, Interlock's reputation precedes them!

I am very appreciative of this site, because from here I learned about their ban from Hawaii due to their business practices, and we can see that their workmanship is lacking. But even before installation...be aware of how they try to play the bait and switch game. It can leave you in a very bad place. How many folks will just go for it because they want their roof done. For me, it caused me to delve deeper into the history of this company and I discovered that their lack of integrity is at the heart of the organization. Who wants a roof done by a company like this?

So as others have said, beware.

An amiable customer

AUTHOR: Me - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, September 13, 2012

I purchased a home with an interlock roof in Anchorage, Alaska. After four years of good performance high winds blew off a large part of the roof. Upon calling, I was told that the warranty was void as i had not called to transfer the ownership, which is lame but possibly my fault.

I then asked if someone could help me protect my home and i was told that the crew was very busy and the rep could not even give me a window of time to expect a reply let alone repair. It's been a week with no reply and we are expecting another wind storm this weekend which will mean more damage.

No other roofing company in town wants to work on this type of roof and many have confirmed that service is a common complaint they have heard through the years about interlock in Alaska..

Their inability to provide basic service and the fact that no other roofer wants to get involved is very troubling and I may need to pull the entire roof off in order to save my home as winter is almost here. I believe this is the worst company I have ever worked with given their lack of follow up and general poor support.

And inform them as to what's going on. Yes, they're crooks and criminals but there is an even bigger issue - they hire ILLEGAL aliens and have them do the contracting. They pay them LESS than minimum wage, and the CRIMINALS keep all of YOUR money to themselves. Everyone is getting ripped off and it needs to stop NOW!!!?ta>
