I graduated from IADT in December 2006 with a degree in Interior Design. Because IADT is not a Regionally accredited school, I made sure that I researched the school before I decided to make the leap. Before attending IADT, I contacted the "career services" & asked them what their employment placement rate is and was told by Joey that their placement rate is 94%. I confirmed they were FIDER accreditated as well.
Before attending IADT I was working for a company making nearly $40,000 a year. When I started IADT, I left that job to attend school full-time. I was told the average salary upon graduation was $40,000. All the jobs I have had only paid $10/hour or less. Since graduation I have been laid-off 3 times! I have never been laid-off/fired from any jobs in the past until now.
To add insult to injury,when I have attempted to contact Career Services at IADT I never get a response. For the amount of tuition IADT charges, the Career Services Rep better be "Johnny on the Spot". Please don't get me wrong, I understand that I have to do my own legwork, but there is absolutely no work to be found in this field. And, I do understand the economic climate we are in. However, I feel like the school isn't doing anything to assist students with alternatives. I feel that if a student can't find employment after dishing out so much money, the school should reimburse the student the tuition spent there.
I am extremely disappointed and wish I never stepped foot in that school. I also feel very foolish for falling for what I feel is a scam. Now I am over $50,000 in school debt, that I don't forsee ever paying off because I can't find reliable employment and employment that doesn't pay over $20,000/year.
I am looking for a group of students who graduated from IADT and are considering suing. Also, I would like to not only sue IADT, but I would like to see an end to "career-orienting" schools.
