We received a call from a telemarketer promising us the moon yesterday. Our company is in a tight spot (business partner took off with a lot of money, sales slowing, profit dropping on jobs, bank accounts falling) so we decided to talk to the gentleman they decided to send. We set up the meeting for today, and a sharply dressed man showed up in a new Volvo.

Kevin Boyd calls himself the "Division Manager" IBA. He promised vague opportunities and provided us with a pretty booklet, which I immediately recognized as crap. He told us to look at testimonials available on THEIR website to show how great the consulting service they offer is. I could see where this was headed. He asked if we had a P and L sheet for their analysts to go over. I told him that we currently do not. I also told him that we don't have the money to afford their services. He told us he'd set up a "free" meeting tomorrow.

This meeting normally costs $1,800.00, but because of our difficult financial situation, he would make sure that the fee was waived, and that he would take the brunt of the expense for us. This was promised to us on the principal that if we were able to put the analysts systems and information in place, the company would survive to use their services at a later date - and pay for those future appointments.

The analysts, he said, could give our business the systems necessary to pull us out of this problem. He claimed that they could raise our profit, monitor our inventory, set up incentive programs that would improve worker performance - and still make us profit. I saw through the crap, though, and as soon as he left I said to the President of our corporation, "I smell a con-artist."

Mr. Boyd's speech was so convincing that I had to talk Paul into believing that they were anything short of a miracle. I immediately went online and found lots of interesting things, like the 450+ complaints the Better Business Bureau and over 150 reports available here. I printed out news articles on these guys, and showed him the HUNDREDS of websites these guys and their subsidiaries have. They're a LOT like a pyramid scam, except they offer a "product."

I immediately called Kevin Boyd (who, by the way, can be reached on his cell phone at 918-798-8800) and told him that something had come up with Paul's medical condition and we had to go to the doctor tomorrow. We'd have to cancel the appointment until further notice, due to the uncertainty that the news would be good. He told me to contact their home office, which I did, and tell them the same thing, which I did. About an hour later, I got a fax from the home office confirming the appointment, which I responded to. I, perhaps, wasn't as nice as I should have been in that response.

We won't be letting anyone in our doors tomorrow, at all. The appointment was cancelled. A fax was sent to their home office with, to be honest, some rude words confirming that I'd called them to cancel. I don't want these con artists coming anywhere near our financial information. I don't want them INSIDE MY OFFICE. If anyone shows, or anyone tries to charge us money, I'll be going to the local news. Expect updates, if they're as hard-selling as they say they are.

Kevin Boyd, the con-artist who tried to get us into this mess, is available at (918) 798-8800. Please feel free to call him and ask if he sleeps okay at night.
