The International Society of Poetry has invited me to attend their Convention in Orlando Florida.......do I go? I did some calculations and it turns out I would have to fork over $1500/US to attend(that's only for 2 people to go). I would have to pay a registration fee for myself and any guests I wanted to bring and give them a deposite. That's not including what I would have to pay for airfare, hotels accomedations and transportation while there. Now, I have never been to Orlando and it sounds soooo good, but if I'm being invited, why do I have to pay to go?????? If I'm being invited, why won't they pay for it? I thought when someone invites you to a Convention that it's on their dime not yours? (or their thousand of dollars).I would really love to go, BUT, I'm on a very tight budget, I have 2 kids and if I ended up going , I would have to take out a loan to go, which I don't want to do because I would end up in debt--bigger than I already am.I really don't want to be scamed, the awards they tell me I'd recieve sound really nice but, I don't want to get there and be stranded or ripped off. Can anyone tell me if they've expierenced this when calculating what it would cost them to recieve their "gifts" if they went???
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Yes Poetry.com or ISP is a vanity company who will try and get you to buy collections of verse which also contain your work. With new publish on demand software, it is very east to print off the number of books needed; from 1-1000.
Now as far as conventions. People are usually charged a fee to attend any sort of convention. Often times a person's company, organization or trade union my cover all of part of the cost. Still the amount requested by ISP for their even is very high, in my opinion.
I only wish ISP had an email address where we could bother them online...)
What saddens me is reading the "positive" responses that are on the poetry website. Many people who obviously feel they are publised and on their way to fortune. To me, that is the scen of the crime.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Everyone that submits poetry to them gets this invitation. Individuals have deliberately written terrible poetry and submitted it to them just to see if they get a letter. Sure enough they do! There are MANY online complaints about this company. All you have to do is do a search on "POETRY.COM Scam"
Even on this site, there are many complaints.
Don't fall for it.
