I am a 38 year old woman and I am desperate for help with my poetry, I know that I have a few good poems entered into the Poetry Societies contests. I have been made to believe that I have been voted Ambassador of Poetry for the last two years. i have also been led to believe that i was to receive funds for winning several contests with some of my poems and I haven't received a thing. I have sent monies several times for books plaques and entry fees for some contests and I haven't gotten any response yet. i have most of the letters I have received of my forthcomings. i haven't been able to afford to join in on any of the conventions and I was told that I would have to buy all the things that I was to have already earned, what should I do?

Keeping Perspective Two

AUTHOR: Plainjane - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 15, 2009

Keeping Perspective's author showed more intelligence and maturity than any of the other letters presented. My daughter joined the group 3 years ago and has benefitted from the conventions. She saved her money from year to year in order to attend these conventions and enjoyed them immensely. She attended many helpful workshops. She also made new friends from all over the world and heard from them at the following Xmas season. Las Vegas is a fun and fascinating place to visit(I went with her). We did not stay at the Riviera but instead stayed at Circus Circus which is right across from the Riviera and is much cheaper($46.00 per night). The rooms were comfortable, clean, and the place was fun. We would LOVE to attend more poetry conventions there. My daughter did not feel cheated by the society in any way and we hope that the society will continue to help and encourage poets to create. Nothing in this world is free. We must spend our efforts wisely. Thank you and please reactivate the conventions.

I was published and awarded several things. I recieved a beautiful wooden backed plaque for being Editors Choice. My mother's addage has always been "if you have to send money, it's a scam." In this situation I was very cautious and the plaque was NOT purchased. It's true they claim you must attend the expensive convention in order to recieve any cash prizes or large awards. To me, that's not what it is about and I just don't go to the conventions. For me it is about getting my poetry into the public domain. You still own the rights to your poem, you have given away nothing. If you read the documentation, then you know that already. Many poets spend a lot of money publishing their own books in the meer hopes of getting a profit. For me, I spent nothing and am truly a published poet. So many people here condemn this company for providing a service no one else offers, a place to be published at no cost. These types of reports make those who were published feel as though their efforts are somehow diminished because you all think it's a ruse. See it for what it is, it's all about perspective.
Thank you.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

This company is a scam.

I would like to comment on your situation. My mother has been a victim of this company as well. They profit off of peoples dreams of being a poet. Unfornately this is not the case with this company. My mother submitted several of her poems and was told she was a winner and had great poetry. Fornately for her she did not send any money to them however they keep harrassing her over conventions and entry fees yada yada yada. All they really want is her money. I urge you to look at this site they have several of theses similiar complaints.
