I recieved letter this morning saying I had won 3rd category in Spanish End of year Sweepstake lottery. Claim file number, batch number and to phone to begin my claim.I was suspicious and checked online to see if it was a scam.

I phoned 'Alfonso Lopez', the name given to call and asked what was involved. He stated that I had to fax my ID and how did I want my money, wishing me many congratulations on my win. I said I would have a cheque as I didnt want to release bank details and he told me that acceptable ID was a passport or driving license.

I asked was there anything to pay before recieving my money and he said only postage and insurance for my cheque, and it would not be much, but couldn't tell me the amount.

I asked about the 'payment processing form' and the 5% commission to be paid. He stated that you only paid the commission after reciept of the cheque. Considering my win was supposedly 615,810 euros, that commission would be approx 31,000 euros.

He asked what my occupation was. I said 'policewoman' (although I am not)and asked what assurances he could give me that he was who he said. So his reply was to ask me to go to spain and see the offices.

Needless to say - I have not faxed back the payment form, given him any personal details or ID.

I went to my local police who were not in the slightest bit interested and just said to rip up the letter and ignore it.

How can anything be done about this if the police are not interested at all?
