My company just received a very legitimate looking invoice for 7 annual subscriptions to a publication called Sales Insider. The amount was for $371.
Aside from its appearance, the thing that gave it an air of authenticity was that it named a person from our Sales Department as the orderer. Also, attached to the invoice was a W-9 for the company - presumably to allow Accounts Payable to set up a vendor account immediately.
We contacted the person in our Sales Department, who, of-course, had never heard of or ordered the publication.

I was scammed by these people, they are unscrupulous and employ specific nefarious tactics. It is a cold sales call which mostly I am able to ditch. They say ohh would you like to try this you say yes and they have the hook set in you. You never recieve anything and they bill you. Of course you dont pay the bill and they get a collection agency after you. Of course the Collection agency is miracullously from PA where these criminals hail from.
Gettting the setup yet?? When the collection agency contacts you and you call they say we have you on recording and they are rude. I chose to pay but I am forwarding this to the RI Atty Generals office because this is a huge scam. One that needs to be rained in... Ohh and apparently the publication that they sold you is through email. Hardly worth the money. Have a nice day Jim McCanney President Institute of Business Publications..I left my name now what??

Dear Anonymous in Temecula:
The invoice that you received from the Institute of Business Publications was, in fact, legitimate. If you had the nerve to stand behind your accusations and provide your name, company name and address, we could provide you with the exact details of the order that your sales person did, in fact, place with our company. In addition, we have a recording that would prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that your accusations are false.
You know this to be the case. Otherwise, you wouldn't have filed this complaint anonymously.
The W-9 forms are provided as a convenience to our paying customers who don't want to have to go through the trouble to request the form from us. To the best of our knowledge, it's neither illegal nor unethical to provide customers with the tools needed to do business with you.
We are also disappointed that the Rip-off Report makes it a habit of posting comments from people who don't have the guts to give their names.
