Let me start by stating I have been a steady paying customer with Jackson National for 26 years.  At the time of our marriage, we took out large, term policies to cover each to care for our family for 10 years.  When our children were older, we switched to  universal life policies to cover each other.  Both policies were paid on time.  Into the 16th year of the universal life policy, $126.71 was due for the quarterly premium.  Instead of receiving a bill for the $126.71, I received a bill for $1650.00 to maintain my current policy. Now, this policy was supposed to offer a cash value.  Each year I received a statement, the cash value was wiped out by the annual maintenance fees.  So, at the time the payment was due for this I had no cash value and owed $1650.00 to keep my policy in force, I let it lapse because now they requested I fill out a 6-page medical questionnaire for insurance I already paid 16 years worth of premims.  There was a clause in the bill that stated there may be additional costs involved to maintain my policy, in addition to the $1650.  At the same time, our wonderful health care system was deducting half my husband's paycheck, each pay period, rendering us struggling to live, but our insurance was paid.  At one time, I thought insurance was a wise and prudent purchase to protect our families in the event of loss.  It is evident who the winners are in the insurance game.  It is apparent our 26 year investment to an insurance company to protect us against loss, has received over $24000 in premiums and us left without coverage.  Save your money based on the cost of insurance premiums and don't touch it.  That is your insurance!!!  You also get to keep your money if you don't use it.  It may not gather interest but you don't lose a penny and your piece of mind will be in tact on your own terms!
