James West, Central Valley Realty And Management Refused to pay invoices for supplies delivered to him (and claimed he wasn't James West when served) Moreno Valley California

James West was a good client for nearly ten years, but in 2008 he began falling behind on his account with me. Since he had been a good client, I granted him some leeway; however, four invoices in 2008 -- totaling nearly $1100 -- have not been paid.

Two of the invoices were for supplies ordered directly by Jim; one invoice was for supplies ordered by Ryan Rude (more on him in a moment) and the other invoice for supplies ordered by another employee. One invoice, for ~$475, had a payment of $80 applied to it in December 2008, but no other payments were made.

I made numerous calls to James that went unanswered. Finally, in response to an e-mail message I sent to him, he said "A Mr. Ryan Rude owns CVRM for over a year now, you will need to contact him." I recalled at that point that prior to Ryan ordering supplies, he had called to "find out what it was that [I] provided for Central Valley." My thought was, "Oh, no, here's someone new that James brought in and he's probably looking to cut costs."

Here's Ryan Rude's response:

"I write you this letter because I believe you may have been trying to contact me and mistaken myself as Central Valley Realty & Management.

"This is to clarify that I am in no capacity to render services on behalf of Central Valley Realty & Management. If you believe that Central Valley Realty & Management owes you services, please contact the company directly. Enclosed is a copy of publicly available information on Central Valley Realty & Management."

That may be true. The website for the company still lists James as the owner and there is no mention of Ryan at all. The Fictitious Business Name filing is still active with James as the sole owner. However, while the business phone number was still active it was being picked up by voicemail identifying it as a number controlled by Ryan.
