In August of 2005, we bought a 20' X 76' mobile home from Jandel Homes of Edmonton, Alberta. We agreed that it would be delivered on the 31rst of August and so throughout the month of August, I prepared a pad and we let a contractor hired by Jandel Homes install 20 - 12" X 13' piles reinforced with 1/2" rebar which would extend into the 12" X 12" cap of each pile. For this foundation, Jandel charged us $3600.00. That would have been a pretty good price if that is what we had received.

When our new home arrived on the 6th of September, (one week late) we were a little unhappy but Jandel did reimburse us for hotel expenses incurred from the 31rst to the 6th. So on September 6, 2005 the truck shows up and comes barreling up the driveway, barely slowing down, let alone stopping to assess the situation. The driver drives directly up onto the pad and over not one but nine piles, breaking nine of the caps. This nimrod's antics however, did lead us to discover that what we had actually received for our $3600.00 was 20 - 10" piles, which may be reinforced with rebar but not with the rebar extending into the 12" X 12" cap. Later we found out that the piles were only 8' deep as well. When we asked for some of our money back we were bluntly told NO!

Now we were told by our sales representative, during the sales pitch that setup would be completed within 4 to 6 weeks from delivery. So over the following 4 to 6 weeks, while I was busy hooking up services and skirting the home, a worker from Jandel would periodically drop in to do some work. Like one day he stopped by and took a picture of a door stop that was mounted in such a way that the door didn't hit it, when swung open. That's right, instead of picking up a screwdriver and moving the doorstop, he picked up a camera and while having a good chuckle, took a picture of the problem but never fixed it. A few days later, while moving furniture into the house, the doorknob went through the gyproc panel. Jandel said they'd replace the panel but that was a year ago and we still have hole in the wall.

Toilets! The toilets in our home came with the wrong lids on the tanks. Jandel ordered new ones and came out last January to replace them. The ones they received were the same as the ones that we have. So they left and haven't bothered to try again.

There is a cut in the linoleum in the utility room. It was there when the home was delivered. It is still there. It is not a big cut and could easily be fixed but one of these days, something is going to catch it and tear it wide open, then the lino will need to be replaced. Coincidentally, my nephew bought a home from Jandel Homes and to his credit, he warned us against them but I figured he was probably too busy to bother with trying to get them to make repairs. The Lino in his dining room split because it was not installed properly.

The repairman who came out told Jandel that the entire dining room/kitchen linoleum had to be replaced but they insisted that he just fix the seam. He did and it didn't work and now my nephew has linoleum taped to the floor at the seam.

These are just a few of the things that went wrong with our home purchase from Jandel, there are a lot more. Some were fixed, others were not. Unless Moduline or Jandel agrees to compensate me for my time, I will not fix any of these items.

It has been over a year since we took possession of the home and many broken promises later, we are still not satisfied. We are not difficult people, they are just unwilling to fix the problems with our home. The latest line is that "warranty issues" have now been "transferred" to Moduline (the manufacturer). We were informed of this a couple of months ago and told that Moduline would contact us.

We've heard nothing from Moduline and when I e-mailed them the first time, I received no reply. When I e-mailed them the second time, I got a reply from... jandel. "Someone will contact you next week". That was weeks ago and still nothing. Anyway, if you're looking for a housing solution, Moduline and Jandel are not the answer.

Do yourself a favour and go look at the competition. If you've already been to the competition, go again. Don't bother with Jandel because once they have your money, they won't bother with you.
