I needed to find an investigator to help me with my husband so i did a google search for the waco area and Jasons name was on the list. I looked at many companies but I chose Jason Attas with Cornerstone Intelligence because I loved what his website says. " He sets a high bar for himself, his work, and the investigators in his company, and insists that every job be treated with tireless dedication until the investigation is completed." I really believed that he set a high bar for himself and would always put his best foot forward in helping me with my case. After a couple conversations with him, I couldnt shake a feeling that something didnt feel right. I did a simple google search and found out he has a criminal background for theft. I instantly stopped all communications with him as this was a very vulnerable time in my life and matter with my marriage and family. I could no longer trust him to not take advantage, as if he can steal from what he did, couldnt he do it to me? I found another investigator and my problem was carried out and solved.

I just wanted to write a report and let it be known that he is not what he advertises himself to be.

Certified Record of No Records Found

AUTHOR: Jason - (United States)

POSTED: Monday, April 01, 2019

Part of my job as a licensed private investigator is to verify salacious information that I find online, and to obtain primary-souce documents about criminal convictions of subjects I am investigating. "Leslie," the author of the original ripoff report about me, obviously used a cheap, online background check website to 'look me up,' and found something that gave her pause. Instead of doing even the most basic due diligence to vet the damaging information she found about me, she rushed to this site that does absolutely NO vetting of the information submitted herein, and defamed my good name.

Fortunately, I know what it means to do due diligence on subjects about whom I may have questions and reservations. The attached, certified letter from the McLennan County Clerk's office states unequivocally that there are no records of any misdemeanor criminal causes against me from my seventeenth birthday in 1992 to the present.

"Leslie" should be ashamed of herself.

I hope my experience will be a good lesson to everyone else that without primary source documents to back up information about people you find online, you should take that info with a grain of salt. And, before you post unverified, defamatory information about professionals to this, or any other consumer reporting website, you should do some actual due diligence.

Context Matters

AUTHOR: Jason - (United States)

POSTED: Thursday, March 28, 2019

Nearly twenty-five years ago now, I was a dumb college kid at Baylor University working on my degree in philosophy. One June night in 1996 while out with some friends, what I would describe as a fraternity prank, went very wrong. I wound up in the McLennan County Jail for the night charged with a Class B misdemeanor for theft. Ultimately, I accepted a deferred adjudication plea, meaning, I successfully completed 9 months of probation, and the guilty plea was never entered on my record.

As someone who had never been in trouble with the law prior to that, you can imagine the shame that a theft charge brought upon me and my family. It was awful. It still haunts me to this day…obviously.

Fortunately, I did not turn to a life of crime, and today I am a licensed private investigator who spends his days and nights helping people like “Leslie” solve some very intimate and personal problems. I'm licensed by the Texas Department of Public Safety as a Private Investigator and have never once had a formal complaint lodged against me. I certainly have never ripped anyone off.

The licensing process to get your PI license without a law enforcement background is very rigorous. I would not have obtained my license if I was a menace to society or had any kind of meaningful criminal record. As the owner and manager of my company, I also must pass a thorough background check every time I renew my license. In addition, I carry professional liability insurance, as well as E&O insurance, the latter of which is not even a requirement in my business.

From the beginning, I set out to run a sound, ethical business, and I am proud of the professional reputation I have built up over the last 7 years or so. The stuff about me setting a high bar that "Leslie" referenced from my website is not just marketing copy. I believe those words. I wrote those words. This business is my life. It's how I feed my wife and children. I love everything about it, even the awful stuff we deal with on a daily basis.

I'm not perfect. I don't pretend to be. We all have a story. I cannot run away from my past any more than “Leslie” can. Yes, I know who “Leslie” is in real life. I’m an investigator. She is a very troubled, impulsive woman with a lot of her own baggage, but I hope that she was ultimately able to get some resolution to her very difficult situation.

I also cannot take issue with anything she said in her review; it's true. While it is true, it is woefully incomplete and lacks very meaningful context. I wish “Leslie” would have asked me about her concerns, instead of racing to the internet anonymously to try to destroy someone's reputation, because I think context matters. I would have been happy to talk to her about it. I have nothing to hide, and I want my clients, and even those who choose not to hire me, to be happy with their decision.

Finally, one of the most important parts of this story with "Leslie" is that I never took a penny from her; not one red cent. I think it is very misleading for her to post this kind of salacious, reputation-destroying review on a site called the "Ripoff Report" when I did not take any money from her. That is very disingenuous, and I would go so far as to call it defamation.

I did not rip "Leslie" off, and she knows it. I've never ripped anyone off.
