I relocated to Georgia in 2001 and previously had an ADT system. The developer that I bought my house from had JEC systems installed. I called JEC and set up my account with them. For three years, I was a satisfied customer and paid my bills punctually and happily.

In 2004, I elected to switch from a land line to a VOIP service. I called JEC to cancel my service and after learning about the cancellation fee, opted instead to pay and have them come out and switch it to work with the VOIP dial out. I kept JEC for an additional year after that.

Unfortunately, I filed for divorce the following year and canceled all services with my name on them, to include JEC. I relocated in October 2005 and finalized my divorce July 2006. Including in my divorce decree was the buyout of my portion of equity and a judgment for my ex-husband to assume responsibility of all household services and bills, including outstanding. At that point, no outstanding bills were present or known about, however, on a safety net aspect, I chose to incorporate that clause.

Imagine my surprise when last night I received a phone call from "an attorney" advising me that JEC had filed a claim against me and placed negative information on my credit report. It was explained to me that in June of 2006 ("maybe that was a 5 or a 0"- after I mentioned I didn't live there then), I had signed a new three year contract with JEC. I asked him to fax me a copy with my signature on it and prove the debt and he informed me it wasn't his obligation to prove the debt was valid. I questioned the date of the contract he claimed his inability to read the contract. After asking for credit card numbers or a checking account number and having me refuse stating the debt wasn't a valid one he said that I acknowledged on a recorded line that I remembered contracting services with them. I laid out the time line for him once again and informed him I was done having the conversation. He threatened to continue monthly reporting to my credit report and I finally hung up.

What a scam! After speaking with JEC they have an automatic renewal contract and regardless of the fact that I had canceled, they informed me that my cancellation wasn't within 30 days of renewal so it auto-renewed for 3 years! 3 years of service fees and late fees is what they are asking for. I've disputed this with the credit bureaus and am reporting this to the Better Business Bureau.

I would advise anyone against doing business with this dishonest, money hungry company.
