7 years ago (2003) I had my pool completely redone: removed old plaster down to the dirt and took out old tile, new plaster, new tile, new flagstone border on decking. It looked good until early last year when huge patches on the bottom began appearing. It looked like paint was wearing off. The bad areas were rough and pebbly.

These large areas looked dirty, kind of algae colored, but not algae.  Then it began on the steps.  The pool looks nasty and dirty all the time now, even after having had weekly cleaning by a great company.

3 weeks ago I called about this, and the warranty period had--of course--expired.  I requested they come out and see what was going on.  They said they never painted, so that wasn't the problem, and that, furthermore, the entire pool would more than likely have to be completely redone! I ask, after only 7 years? The original job lasted nearly 30 years.

I still haven't heard from them about sending out a tech guy to diagnose the problem, but after reading these other negative reports, I'm going to have a couple of other companies come out to see what can be done.

This doesn't really seem to be an issue with Kerber

First off, you say that the warranty period expired like it was right before you called. They only warranty for 5 years, so your warranty ran out a long time before you had problems. Secondly, you don't paint plaster in pools. Ever. The plaster may have been chipping, but this could be from a lot of different sources. Do you ever drain your pool in the winter? That will cause your plaster to dry out and crack. In the end you have to realize that you need to take care of your pool. You can't just wait till it's falling apart and expect someone to come fix problems that may or may not have caused. If you had reported this to Kerber before you were missing chunks of plaster they probably could have just patched it up.
