On 11/25/2016 we bought a pendant and, separately, a chain because the original gold chain that came with said pendant was too light. My wife went back a few hours later to return the chain, which cost $340 by itself. She found a better gold chain (same karat) for the pendent elsewhere for less money. The owner said that we bought a "package" that could not be separated. We said "no, " here is the receipt that has a charge for the pendant and another for the chain. We also stated we would be OK with returning both. Finally, he said he would see what he "could do, " and after looking at a catalog and using a calculator, said he would accept the return of the chain for $180! We replied that his offer was not acceptable and reminded him that the saleslady never said the sale was final nor was there a sign to that effect. He replied that in Kansas no such sign is necessary anyway and that "there is nothing you can do" and turned his back on us! This is the way we were treated after being regular customers of his business for years -- unbelievable!

Perhaps the owner's paid rep (who is spelling challenged) responded to my complaint. First of all, we did not "throw a tantrum." Second, we had the receipt and the merchandise was obviously the same, as even the owner realized for he looked up its value in his own catalog. The point of a return is to satisfy a loyal customer so that he or she comes back again and again. Arguing that there is no state requirement to give returns is rather silly, like winning a battle over a point but losing your good standing in the long run.

Being overly cheap can sometimes bit you in the end. You do realize that in a lot of states doing a "return" is a courtesy that the store does. In a lot of states you are allowed to do a return but the shopkeeper gets to charge YOU for the return with a "Restocking" fee. In todays society EVERY retail outlet has to examine EVERY return. Im sure YOU have done this before. YOU return something and LIE. You say something like '"t didnt work" or some other little white lie in order to get your money bqack. Im also sure you or your wife have "Made a scene" to get your way. All of these are reasons WHY retailer look at you funny when YOU are trying to return something. Many instances the item purchased is needed for a SINGLE USE, but customers will LIE and say it didnt work even after they have used it. This way they got THIER problem solved and the retailer is out both the product AND the cash. With just this bit of information you should be able to understand WHY a few hours later when your wife is returning JUST the chain the shopkeeper is going to look at you funny and make 100% sure that YOU are in fact returning the EXACT chain purchased. THEY dont know for sure that either YOU or YOUR WIFE are trying to pull a fast one. You know by a CHEAPER chain at less then YOU paid for the original and then attempting to use that cheap chain AS the return. Then YOU would be getting a refund AND the original chain. As for the sale being final, guess what, ALL sales are final IF the shopkeep says so. There is no court in the US that is going to FORCE a business to give you a refund if that business chooses not to. So before YOU get all self entitled just understand that its YOUR fellow citizens and THIER thievery and lies that has made it this way. That even YOU will LIE and throw a tantrum JUST to get your way and those are the reasons returns are so difficult. Because ppl like YOU will do whatever they think they can get away with and be damned the consequences to ANYONE ELSE! Truly America has become a nation of sociopaths.
