I had the oil on my 2007 Jaguar S-Type changed at the Jiffy Lube in Long Island City, Queens in February of 2007. I had to return the next day because it was leaking profusely. The manager told me that they had a hard time getting the skid plate off because they lacked the proper wrench. This impeded their ability to install the filter, causing the leak. He assured me that it was now tight.
In July the engine seized. When I returned the car to Jaguar, they showed me that the oil leaked out of the Penzoil filter, causing the engine to seize. The repair, not covered by warranty was $12,000. I contacted Jiffy Lube. They inspected the filter and said it was not their fault since it was outside the 3 month 3000 mile warranty. Since I have the dealership documentation and photographs, I will be able to pursue recovery through the courts, but it is a shame that it had to get to this point. They should have had the proper tools to begin with, and they should have owned up to their own poor workmanship.

#5 UPDATE Employee
Ignorance is not an excuse

I was partially dealing with this case when it occured. The above complaint was semi-correct, unfortunately some key details were left out of the original complaint. First let's begin with an oil change should occur every 3 months or 3,000 miles per normal standards across the board, But we will even go with the dealers standards which warranties at up to 6,500 miles on an oil change.
If you wait roughly 7 months to a year or past the dealers standards to almost 6,900 miles, the 520 oil which was used would break down, any mechanic that turned a wrench would know this. Now we will even look at this from another approach, the shiny red light that lights up when service is needed is not to make your dashboard look pretty but to inform you that SERVICE IS REQUIRED.
So in essence you're blaming hardworkers for your negligence on your vehicle which has now cost you roughly $12,000 on what again any mechanic knows is a $5,000 engine built by Ford BTW.. which isn't that difficult to work on..
As I am a hard working person this is pretty much all the time I have to rebut this complaint. Obviously you do not have anything better to do with your time than blame others for you negligence.

you left something out

why didnt you say that it had been about a YEAR between oil changes? i remember hearing about this claim. funny how you left that detail out. just because jiffy lube does an oil change does not mean that you can neglect your car and blame them when something eventually breaks.

Oil Change?

Okay so you have a 2007 Jaguar that costs around 40-60K new and you wanted to save probably less than $50 by not going to your dealer? You should never take your car to these type of places especially if you have a car of any value at all, let alone a Jaguar. Not that every time you go to these places something will happen, but it happens much more than if you take it to a certified mechanic or your dealer who are not under a "time limit" to get your car done.
Now, you said that they did this in February, but it did not seize until July? Did you ever check the oil yourself in these 5 months? If it is how you described then this would have been leaking since they did it. If you do proper maintenance you should have caught this well before it did any damage.
Also, if this is 5 months later and in general they recomend that you change your oil every 3 months or 3,000 miles. So if you didn't go over the miles you should have definatly gone based on months.

you went to jiff lube because you didn't want to pay dealer price for an oil change!! $80 to $130, so you got what you paid for. lol
