When I bought my Avalon in 2000 at Jim Coleman Toyota in Bethesda, Md. strong pressure was placed on me to also buy the exterior paint and fabric protection warranties, costing me more than $400 dollars extra. I explained I was moving to Florida, and their strong selling point was: "You really must have this warranty because of the strong Florida sun!"

Never, not once, was it told to me that the warranty was only valid at Jim Coleman's Toyota, neither does the 8-year written warranty say so. Now that my black car has faded, I have called both managers Greg Corbett and Jeff Packer, besides their Customer Rep.(?). Mr. Corbett refused to even hear me out, saying "Our conversation is over." When contacting them I heard: "You must have the car here for us to look at it." I offered to take my car to any Toyota dealership they chose in my area, and obviously I can't take my car back to Bethesda,Md. for them to look at it.

They knew very well that I would be at the other end of the country, therefore making their present demand impossible to satisfy. To me, this is deceitful and fraudulent, just a way to refuse satisfying the terms of their warranty. Now, my question is: Where do I go to complain, whom can I contact at Toyota Corp. or other organizations that control or have an interest in the agencies that sell their product? Thank you!

She said it was a Warranty

What you're talking about Cory is the add-on sticker price for this worthless service. However, the OP said she had a written warranty...

Paint and Fabric Protection

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 23, 2006

For all you suckers that buy the paint and fabric protection. They WAX the car, maybe, and spray fabric protection(scotchgard) on the seats. That's about it. Not bad for $400 or more. Same goes for that rust treatment crap. They figure maybe, 1 or 2 percent of the customers will have a complaint. Then they'll do everything possible to weasel out of doing anything about the problem, just like they're doing with you.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Are you positive about what the warranty says?

AUTHOR: Dave - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 23, 2006

Is this a Toyota warranty, or a dealer warranty? The warranty must state somewhere who is responsible for repairing the paint/interior. Read it very carefully, look for something that says 'dealer must approve repairs' or something of that nature... They probably hid it in the fine print.

If not, then turn them into the Maryland Attorney General's office as well as Florida.
