I recently purchased a 9 month old basset hound puppy from an individual in Illinois. I asked why he was selling the dog, and explained that originally his mother had purchased the puppy, but she lives in a duplex and wanted a dog to walk. She soon found out that maybe a basset was not the breed she thought it was. So she gave the dog to her son. He did not want the dog, so decided to sell it.
When I asked him where they originally purchased the dog, he told me, "a breeder in Iowa." I also asked him if he saw the mother and father of the puppy. He said, "no." The Ellerbach's gave him some excuse as to why he could not view them. I was given the Application for Dog Registration and the Bill of Sale for the dog. The Bill of Sale had written on it, "Guaranteed".
After having this adorable little girl for a month, I have noticed her personality is not that of my other two bassets. Plus, I have been a foster for Guardian Angel Basset Rescue. I know the breed quite well. So, I was going to contact the breeder to ask some questions.
After searching the internet for the telephone number, I found two (2) Ripoff reports against these people who call themselves breeders. These people are nothing more than dog abusers and are running a puppy mill. They have 12 different breeds they are selling. These people need to be stopped. People need to be aware of them!!
The breeds these people are selling are: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Basset Hound Cockapoo, Collie, German Shepherd, Golden Doodle, Golden Retreiver, Labra Doodle, Lhasa Apso, Minature Dachshund, and Morkie.
I have no intention on getting rid of my little girl. Thank goodness so far, she only has fearful issues. I can work with her and with patience, she will eventually come around. I hoping and praying there will be no physical problems in the future.
I am writing in the hopes people will do their research before purchasing a puppy from these people. The saddest part, however, is that these people probably sell their puppies to pet stores and the consumer never knows.

If anyone with a IQ of 87 ; would of taken them to a VET ;
(OR WOULD OF NOTIFIED US . ) they would of recieved all medical help available .

On our Written Contract signed by both parties..
pup was born 8-18-2007
You purchased a male germ. shep pup for a breeder. On our contract it states:WE
have a 72 hr. health guarantee or no guarantee. We guarantee pup for genetic defect up to 1st birthday..We will replace pup same sex, breed, & price value.
Seller not responsible for any vet bills.( we also send the shot/worming records along with Labels)
You called us on Aug.20, 2008 and said your pup has hip dysplasia. Jim asked you
to get proof from your vet. We have not received anything.. Jim also asked for your vets phone number and you would not give it to him..
You want us to pay $200. for 1st check up on the hips & you want us to pay $8000. for a surgery coming up. READ YOUR CONTRACT!! You have not proved anything..
You bought this pup as a breeder & you said you also have 33 adult females.
We are a licensed kennel & we have rules & regulations that we have to go by.
I told Tami i would call her Fri or sat. Yes i was planning on calling you in the morning to tell you i have the contract !! I'm sure you have misplaced something before!!
To this day we have nothing from your vet!!
Saturday Aug 23-2008 8:10 am Brad called and insisted that we need to change the contract !!!!! That's already been signed over a year ago..
You said this pup was limping for the last month & in a lot of pain.. Why didn't you take the pup to the vet then & also call us !!!!! Jim asked for your vets phone number, and you would not give to him ..

I just posted my own complaint and am very sorry for everyones experience with this puppy farm. I need help to take further action. For any ideas or comment I would appreciate. The Ellerbach farm I feel is in breech of contract that I have in writing. They will not return my phone calls. I plan to proceed with further action.
