TEXAS GREAT DANE RESCUE..ADOPTED OUR DOG FROM THEM COME TO FIND OUT SHE HAD STAPH ON HER SKIN AND A YEAST INFECTION IN HER EAR! I WAS GIVEN HER PAPERWORK WHEN I PICKED HER UP, BUT ALL THAT IT CONTAINED WAS HER SHOT RECORDS FROM MARCH 2010..WE ADOPTED HER IN NOV 2010. THEY TOLD ME SHE PREVIOUSLY HAD HEART WORMS AND WAS TREATED, THE ONLY THING THAT WAS IN HER RECORDS WAS THAT SHE TESTED POSITIVE IN MARCH! I DECIDED TO TAKE HER FOR HER CHECK UP TO OUR VET THATS WHEN WE FOUND OUT SHE HAD THE STAPH AND EAR INFECTION, AND TESTED POSITIVE FOR HEART WORMS!! I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE DIRECTOR OF THE RESCUE, NO CALL FOR 6 HRS! I THREATENED TO STOP PAYMENT OF OUR $350 PAYMENT FOR OUR ADOPTION IF I DID NOT GET A CALL TO FIND OUT WHY SHE TESTED POSITIVE FOR HEART WORMS! SHE THEN CALLED MY HUSBAND AND TOLD HIM THE DOG NEVER ITCHED THE SPOT WHERE SHE HAD STAPH BEFORE IT MUST BE THE BENIFUL FOOD WE ARE FEEDING HER, AND SHE WANTED TO PICK UP THE DOG, MY HUSBAND TOLD HER THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN! SHE TOLD US SHE WAS TREATED IN OCT FOR HEART WORMS, BUT OF COURSE WE WERE NEVER GIVEN RECORDS FOR THIS, OR MADE AWARE OF THIS!! I THEN HAD HER CALL ME BACK THAT EVENING WHEN JO ELLEN THE DIRECTOR CALLED ME BACK SHE CALLED ME A b***h AT THE START OF THE CONVERSATION BECAUSE I THREATENED TO STOP PAYMENT BECAUSE I WANTED HER TREATMENT RECORDS, AND WAS TOLD SHE WANTED TO PICK UP THE DOG, I TOLD HER NO WAY! I ALSO TOLD HER, HOW COULD A RESCUE KNOWINGLY PLACE A DOG WITH STAPH IN A HOME WITH A TODDLER!! THEY HAD DONE A HOME CHECK AND APPLICATION! SHE PROCEEDED TO THREATEN TO BRING AN OFFICER OVER TO GET THE DOG, I LAUGHED AND HUNG UP ON HER! UPDATE!--THE DOG IS WITH US, AND OVER 500 LATER WE HAVE HER ON MANY MEDICATIONS FOR HER STAPH AND EAR INFECTION, AND STILL PAID THE DIRECTOR FOR THE DOG, BECAUSE I WILL NOT BE THE BAD GUY IN THIS!! I GOT THE PAPERWORK FROM THEM AT POTRANCO VET, IT WAS SO SCREWED UP!!! SHE WAS TREATED FOR HEART WORMS IN OCT, THAT IS 8MTS AFTER KNOWING SHE WAS SICK!! THE PAPERWORK IS WRITTEN IN JUMBLE, DATES ARE BACKWARDS, MY VET COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!! OUR DOG IS HAPPY NOW WITH A FOREVER HOME, WE WILL HAVE HER RECHECKED IN MARCH FOR HEART WORMS. PLEASE BEWARE WHEN YOU ADOPT FROM THEM!!! THIS DIRECTOR IS VICIOUS AND DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THESE ANIMALS!!!!!!!

Understand issues before blasting someone

AUTHOR: Carol - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, August 07, 2011

Obviously the rescue made a mistake in trusting you with a dog.  If you had done your homework on these typical dog health issues, you would not sound so uneducated nor be so angry.

Heartworms can be treated in a number of ways.  They do not need a veterinaran to inject the dog with the deadly immiticide.  And if that treatment is used, the dog will still test positive in 6 months and may continue to test positive for 8 to 10 months, depending on the severity of the infestation.  Ivermectin and Doxycycline regiment can rid the dog of heartworms in about the same length of time and at a 10th the cost and much less chance of killing the dog in the process.

Yeast infections, particularly in a dogs ears, are so common, they are probably up there with human headaches.  There are quite a few across the counter remedies and a 'yeast defense' in the diet can reduce or even eliminate future occurances.
What you refer to as a steph infection, I believe you are referring to what is commonly called a hot spot.  There is no absolute on why a dog gets them.  And they can literally appear over night.  Adding probotics to the diet can help their immune system fight them off.  You can get it at WalMart or even give a tablespoon (twice a day for a Dane) of plain non-fat Danon Yogurt (Must be Danon as the cheap stuff does not have the essentials.)

I'm sorry they called you names, but I suspect they were provoked.  Most rescues care very much about their rescues.  They do not short cut care, just because they give the shots themselves or use homeopathic veterinarian approved methods for cures.  And we are not psychics.  We can't predict what illness might appear tomorrow or the next day anymore then you can predict if your child will get a fever or an ear ache.   You should have let them have the dog back.  They would have refunded your money in full.  They would have treated the dogs medical issues and found a more suitable home for him.
