I recently bought a 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid from Joe Myers on 3/1/12.  The agreed upon priced based on company's x-plan pricing would be 31,752.  They agreed to this and I signed paperwork for the pricing as the dealership gets a kick back from Ford for selling cars to corporate customers.

They agreed to pay $17,500 for pay on my vehicle.  All is this great and then the rip off:  The finance manager changed the pricing on the contract to 34,655 and it was late in the evening.  I didn't notice the price change and because it was late he said sign and we would go over the next.  (Whitney Babineaux).  He showed me the interest rate and I added some extras which was fine with.

Having bought Fords on credit since 1975, and having been a steady customer over the years, I signed without really scrutinizing the contract, so I didn't notice the change in pricing.  The next day when I picked up all for forms were in a sealed envelope and off I went.  I have never had anything like this happen to me from a Ford dealership and never expected to be duped like this.  Price switching from $31,752 to $34,655 and on top of it the dealership gets the kick back from Ford for selling the car at X-plan corporate pricing!

Do not ever go to Joe Myers Ford, they are swindlers!

Read the entire contract today...go back to the dealership right now

First check to see if you have any time period in the contract to return the car and cancel the transaction. Some dealerships have a short period of time for you to unwind the deal (one to three days) but not all dealerships. It has to be in writing in your contract to be in effect.

Even if you don't see it, go back to the dealership today, immediately, right to the finance dept manager and unwind that deal if you don't get a revision to the agreed upon price. You may not be able to unwind the purchase in which case you are stuck with it. But it is worth trying. Do it now because its already been 3 days since your purchase. Good luck.

Deflecting Blame

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

You are absolutely right they may have pulled a "fast one" on you however, the final point of defense against this type fraud is YOU the customer, taking any and all the time YOU need to read and understand the contract BEFORE your fingers even touch a pen.  Car dealers do this sort of thing all the time because they know the average person will not read what they are signing.  If it was me, I would have read the contract, place my initials after every entry and then take a picture of the contract entries with my phone.  If they tried to rush me into signing, I would firmly tell them, "either I take the time to read and understand this contract without you rushing me, or I walk out!"

The Sleazy American Car Business deserves the reputation they have earned.  Me, you and every person who walks into their store needs to arm ourselves with the tools to be a smart consumer as well as the willingness to not play doormat.

In the final analysis, YES they committed fraud, however, you failed to use defensive action to prevent it.
