I Texted my number in response to a high dollar Craigslist item I was selling. The man's name was "Jones Hasbrook". His phone number is 516-200-8313. He said he wished to buy my item for his son in Ohio. I gave him my Paypal info, and, although no payment ever showed in my real Paypal account, I did get suspicious emails from "Paypal" (fake) in my Spam folder. The emails, and Mr. Hasbrook both said he had supposedly overpaid me by $420.00, and asked me to Western Union this extra cash to a another man named "Richard J. Ring", in Naples, Florida.

When I reverse looked up the cell number he used to text me, it showed up as a "Landline". Odd. When I looked up the name on Google of the desired Western Union recipient, "Richard J. Ring", it exactly matched an elderly man who had died last year in Naples, Florida.

I informed Jones Hasbrook that I had gotten his fraudulent emails from the odd Paypal email address at "Y mail.com" He weakly tried to convince me he was legitimate, but I ended the transactions.

I felt it was important to report this scam online, as neither his name, nor phone number came up in my Google searches as being known or reported scams. I sure don't want to see anyone lose hard earned cash to this.

I was just contacted via text message from this phone number for a craigslist ad I had posted. I was suspicious and did a search on the number (thank you for posting your experience). Here is the text of the message I received (spelling and grammar unchanged):

"Hello,I am interested in buying this for my son in Ohio and pls just make sure it is in condition described. I will appreciate more pictures if available and will be sending your money asap. My shipper will be available to pick this up due to my work as a doctor surgeon so i have a limite time to do this,my shipper will be there as soon as payment is made. Do you have PayPal account? because I have a PayPal account that I can easily send money through because, its good for business payments. Get back to me with your PayPal email address with your personal email address and name in order for me to have your money sent on time. Confirm sale to me and remove the add from posting."
