Anyone in the Stow, Ohio area...please beware of Joseph J. Novak! 

Joseph is a scam artist who has conned his latest victim out of $4,000, however this is far from his first attempt. He claimed he was selling his collection to take care of a sick cat, and then he claimed he needed the money for his sick children. He also told people his cousin died in a motorcycle accident. None of these things are true: Joseph has been grifting on Facebook for years, first by starting fraudulent Kickstarter campaigns where he faked injures to spend money on movies, and then to rip off people who tried to buy from him. His latest stunt has resulted in a permanent depature from social media. His wife's account is still active (https://www.facebook.com/Boonejab) and she is not being responsive. 

Joseph lured his latest victims by selling his bluray collection. He told prospective buyers who were interested in purchasing movies that he was selling to take care of a dying cat. He would then send them a paypal address that did not match his name. This paypal belonged to a friend who wanted to help him by the name of Matt Owens. Joe told people that Matt was his brother, which is not true. He claimed that his card was hacked at a gas station and that this was the reason he needed to use Matt's paypal. The reality is that his regular Paypal had a negative balance from all the claims opened against him, so he was suspended. Joe would squeeze money out of people using various lies, and then have Matt wire him the money so that he could pay his bills. Matt's agreement with Joe was that he could continue to conduct business under the pretenses that Joe ships out the movies he promised. 

When claims began to mount against Matt's account, Joe told Matt to fight them, even though he had no tracking to prove he was shipping these packages out. This is where Joe's story began to shift: first he claimed that the reason packages were late was because he was shipping through his brother's business and that his brother's business shipped every two weeks. But then he deleted his account and had his wife, Laura Novak, tell Matt that he was arrested on Federal Drug Charges. This is where everything gets crazy...

Joe told Matt that he had sent some ecstasy pills to an online friend via the mail and that because of this, all of his packages had been confiscated by the police. However, since his disappearance, there has been no arrest records to prove this is true, and Joe has activated and deactivated his account suspiciously from jail. 

Joe's wife, Laura, is believed to be helping him in his con. If you encounter these two, please proceed with caution! Do not trust them or give them any of your personal information.
