The company had called us to collect on some of our overdue collections. The contacts name was Sharon. They said that if you send us a check in the amount of $1800.00 they would use the money in order to hire an attorney to collect.

I requested a letter that said that if they could not collect that they would reimburse us the money. I have that letter and they now say that the person who signed it wasn't authorized. How convenient!

They said we will credit you in an account so that for any future business the money will be there to use. That wasn't our agreement. Mr stevens said in a conversation that they tried all avenues and could not collect. That was in July of 06. He now informs us in October of 06.
After continuing our conversation he was constantly interupting the conversation and would not let me get a word in edge wise. His last words were." You win a few and loose a few" Then hung up on me.

Do not use this firm they are as bad as the people they say they collect from. You have to hire a collections agency to collect from them

They ARE bad news...

AUTHOR: Cynthia - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 21, 2007

Yep: same company...and who knows how many other names they go by. RUN to your phone and call The District Attorney's Office, Special prosecutions Division. They have a FAT file on these folks. 805-662-1750: Investigator Greg Askay.

Yeah, right....like I just fell off the turnip truck.....to the poster that said he was so pleased......No One happy with services frequents this site.....except owners and employees of worried firms.

Check out their website link to " the Good Business Bureau" Theirs is the ONLY page...that and an "F" rating from the BBB says it all!

In addition to operating Specialized Recovery they also do business as FCMS (Forensic Case Management Services)

AUTHOR: Business Owner - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 18, 2007

The phone number they gave me is 866-641-8797 I'm sure they operate under the same roof because the same voice answers the phone for J&S and FCMS. They also use the same hold music.

When I called FCMS the lady answered I immediately recognized her voice and asked if this was J & S. I must have thrown her for a loop because she immediately transfered my call back to the lady that gave me the FCMS number. I was put on hold and then they disconnected me.

I have begun to log all my calls them.

AUTHOR: P - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, April 21, 2007

maybe it will help someone ... pay attention to the line that says ... THEY ARE NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE LAW'S LICENSING OR REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS, THEIR COMPLAINTS CONTACT ESPECIALLY SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS OR THE COMPANY'S INDUSTRY IS KNOWN FOR .. FRAUDULENT BUSINESS PRACTICES."

they haven't been in business but a couple of years and already have a failing grade with the BBB

It was given an "F" letter grade by the local BBB which is as follows:

F We strongly question the company's reliability for reasons such as that they have failed to respond to complaints, their advertising is grossly misleading, they are not in compliance with the law's licensing or registration requirements, their complaints contain especially serious allegations, or the company's industry is known for its fraudulent business practices

#12 UPDATE EX-employee responds

WHAT THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW...............

AUTHOR: Chantel - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, April 19, 2007

I first need to say a little something about the person in Canoga Park, CA that was so happy and pleased with Joseph Steven & Associates. What you all need to do is read that BS again because it was most likely written by an employee or the owner of Joseph Steven & Associates. You have to ask yourself a question, why would a person come to this website? People come here because they are pissed off and want to write something bad about someone that screwed them. They don't come here to defend a company they have done business with. YOU BE THE JUDGE.

JUDGMENT CORRECTION: If a person is jailed after a lawsuit it is not because he owed money. It's because he ignored a court order to appear and was held in contempt of court. They can't hold someone until they pay, that is the biggest crock of s&^t I've ever heard. Once a person is released he must appear at the next court date or go back in for a few more days, or risk their license being taken away. This process is called a debtors examination or ORAP for short (google it). At an ORAP the Judgment Creditor gets to ask the Judgment Debtor questions about their assetts and where they are, THATS IT.

MOVING RIGHT ALONG

The guy that wrote the original posting above can still get his money back in numerous ways. I am familiar with what they told you and that the woman that called you was most likely named "SHARRON PAYNE". Ask youself some questions. Can she be held personally liable for her actions? Is she a W2 employee or a 10-99 employee? Anyone that is a 10-99 employee is technically a sole proprietor and does not fall under the protection of the corporation they work for. File a small claim and serve Joseph Steven & Associates with a Subpeona Duces Tecum. On the Subpeona list what information you want them to release such as: past 3 years 10-99s for all employees including Sharron Payne and any possible aliases, (JUST IN CASE)request copies of all her pay stubs and copies of her drivers license, social security card, while your at it you may as well request 10-99s and w2s for all employees for the past 3 years (just to be on the safe side) this way you can call and ask his ex-employees to testify on your behalf, and whatever else you think may be necessary for your trial.(buy a how to book on small claims for ideas) GO WHERE THE MONEY IS.

Once you obtain a judgment against her and/or the company, you must wait 30 days prior to enforcing it. Which means that they will file a motion to vacate/dismiss so you will have to go back to court and explain it to the judge all over again. After the 30 days you can run a credit report on her and you will see what she owns. You can file for an Abstract and send it to the county clerk recorder and they will place a lien on her home, which you can forclose on.

You never know what may happen, you may just get a call from the laidy or company offering to pay or settle for a lesser amount so you will drop the case, I would'nt. UNTIL THE WHEELS FALL OFF...

For more information on how to win in small claims just go to a book store as I stated earlier and buy a guide to small claims. BE CAREFUL WHERE YOUR VENUE IS. If you file suit, do it in their neck of the woods.

HOW MANY OTHERS WERE TAKEN BY THIS COMPANY?

I only wish that I kept all my documents that they sent me because I would have done this for myself.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT what else you can do, just post a message and I will respond...

What a bold, new concept. people who owe debts going to prison. Wow. didn't the Soviet Union do the same thing?

You people who thump your chests in triumph over this type of trend had best examine exactly what the ramifications are for this sort of concept. After the government raises tax rates to 60% or above to pay for all the new prisons and to feed, treat medically, and otherwise generally provide for all these new inmates, I seriously doubt that the piddly piece of money you won before sending that person to jail will seem like much.

It's no wonder Marx had such a grim view of capitalism. look at where it has brought us.

I read the posters response with disgust and disbelief. Financial survival is hard enough these days without adding the threat of jail to the mix. With all of the jails/prisons in this country facing overcrowding, budget cuts, and often lack of basic care, I fail to see how adding non violent people to the mix for FAILURE TO PAY A BILL is going to help!!

Maybe the poster who RECEIVED this money should be responsible for paying the housing costs for the debtor he collected from. Most judgments are so inflated by the collection agencies that I'm sure he would have still come out ahead.

Shame on those of you that believe that the solution to every problem is government intervention. No wonder my taxes are so high!

Nice that you got your money and more, it was owed so it should have beed paid.

I guess these collection agency can get a debtor prison going in this country, well done to be on the ground floor of setting new way to for collector to screw over the little guy.

The city owes me money, I wonder if I can jail the mayor or one of his lazy directors, or maybe that collection agency that didn't pay one of the original poster, maybe your collecter cop can share a cell with the fellow you had out put in there.

I'm a cop and putting people in jail over a civil debt is just plain wrong and dirty, Thats nothing to be happy or proud about, but you got paid, I wonder if he has a place to go back to, a job, what effect you think this might have on his children, Daddy went to jail because he didn't pay a bill. you got love the way this country is heading,

THEY HAD MY DEBTOR JAILED AND FORCED HIM TO PAY!!!

AUTHOR: Walter - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, April 05, 2007

I just want to go on the record to say that I am really happy with this company. I turned over a debtor that owed me a lot of money. The man would not pay and avoided every attempt i ever made. I even used a couple other collection outfits, but go no results. Joseph, Stevens Assocaites said they could get the money and I sent them two thousand dollars to cover what they said it would cost. After several weeks they said the debter did not pay and he ignored them just like he had always done. but they did get a default judgment for a lot more than what was originally owed. several more weeks went by, and i got a call that this guy had been arrested! becaase a bench warrant went out for contempt of court because he did not show up for a debtor examine hearing. I called the court and it was true. he was being held on a bond equal to the amount of my judgment. it turned out he had stuffed his money away in a trust fund. his attorney tried to bargain, but Joseph Stevens made him pay it all before he could get out of jail. its no wonder people hate collection companies like this one, they are ruthless.

JSA GOT ME ALL OF MY MONEY PLUS INTEREST & FEES!

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, March 31, 2007

This collection company signed me up because I had an $8,000.00 debt owed to me by a company that changed names two years ago. I thought it was hopeless. As it turned out, they locatted the guy and found that he had lost his "corporate" protection, and the debtor tried to claim he was bankrupt. JSA recommended I sue the guy. I wasnt sure I wanted to spend money on this, but I sent a check for 1800 dollars.

After two months, I was worried, but they did get a judgment for me against the debtor personally and in his old business's name. Another month went by and they told ne they were trying to levy his bank account. Finally after four months thay called and told me they had filed a personal property lien against this guy and that they had gotten a check for 13,000 form the title company. Within 10 days I had a check in my hand for over $9000.00 after they deducted their fees. I couldnt be happier. I thought that money was long gone.
